The East Texas Weekend Preview — If you’re looking for fun things to do in East Texas this weekend, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our rundown of some fun things happening around the area!

THURSDAY, 7/4

Fourth of July Celebration at Lindsey Park

  • When: Gates open at 3pm
  • Where: Lindsey Park, Tyler

Free mini-golf near the Kids Fun Zone from 5 to 8 p.m. Find the Flag Hunt – Find a flag somewhere in the park and turn it in for a prize! Stars and Stripes Parade– children can participate in a march around the park led by the Tyler Police Department. All participating children are asked to report near the Kids Fun Zone at 7 p.m. The fireworks show will begin after dark (around 9 p.m.).

Fourth of July Extravaganza

  • When: 5:30pm
  • Where: Kilgore City Park

Enjoy live music from Dallas party band, The Jukebox Heroes! Snack on some delicious food options from various local food trucks. Then at 9:15pm, be awestruck by the legendary Kilgore Firework Extravaganza! The fireworks will accompany a simulcast on KDOK 105.3 FM and 1240 AM. Also. the Kilgore City Pool and Lazy S Splash Ranch hours will be extended ‘til 8:30pm.

FRIDAY, 7/5

Creature Teacher

  • When: 11am
  • Where: Paris Public Library

Our favorite Creature Teacher is back!! All ages are encouraged to attend this fun event on July 5th, beginning at 11:00 AM!

4th of July Bash

  • When: 11am-8pm
  • Where: Blue Sky RV Park, Seven Points

Thunder Over East Texas

Two legendary CAF warbirds will be offering cockpit tours and Living History flights. For the ultimate warbird experience, book a flight on one of the classic planes – prices start as low as $150!

Family Fun Night at East Texas Turf

A fun evening of kickball, whiffle ball, nerf gun wars, food, snow cones, and much more!!!

Family, Fun, Freedom, and Farmers Fest 2024

  • When: 4pm
  • Where: Hilltop Heaven Homestead, Mount Enterprise
  • Cost: Entry Fee $2

Join us for our First Annual Family, Fun, Freedom and Farmers Fest! Hosted by Hilltop Heaven Homestead and Cedar Ridge Meats, we’re excited to celebrate America with our community! Join us for tons of fun for the whole family! We will have some seating available, but please bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the music on the lawn! Walk around our market area and shop from local businesses and get to know your local farmers and enjoy food from local food trucks.

Pizza Tasting

Laugh Out Longview Improv Festival

Theatre Longview and the Duck. Duck. Moose! Improv Comedy Troupe proudly present the inaugural Laugh Out Longview Improv Festival on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6, at the Longview Community Center located at 500 E. Whaley Street, Longview, TX. Join us for two nights of hilarious performances by THE Laura Hall from the hit TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, along with improv comedy teams from across the state of Texas. AND to top it off, there will be a finale performance Saturday night from the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Touring Company who is coming all the way from Los Angeles! (the original Upright Citizen’s Brigade theatre was found by Amy Poehler and others and literally wrote the book on improv comedy). Saturdays on Main is a family friendly event held on the first Saturday of each month to feature all the fun things to see and do in the 44 blocks of the Palestine Main Street District in downtown Palestine, Texas.

Let Freedom Ride!

  • When: 9am
  • Where: Roughneck Harley-Davidson, Longview

Join us for a fun-filled Saturday featuring bounce house, face painting, lawn games, and more! Enjoy delicious treats from Funnel Cake Playground. Happy Hour from 1pm-4pm beers and frozen margs.

Tackle and Talk: Women’s Fishing 101

  • When: 9am-10:30am
  • Where: Lake Tawakoni State Park, Wills Point
  • Cost: Free along with your $5 Park Entry Fee

Learn all the basics of angling (fishing), practice casting with the backyard bass game, and fish in the Pair-O-Tree Pond or Lake Tawakoni. A fishing license is not required. Instructions and all equipment are provided. We will cover all the basics of angling (fishing) and participants will have the opportunity to practice casting using the backyard bass game. Participants will also have time to try their luck at fishing after the instruction. All fishing gear will be provided. However, poles are limited, so feel free to bring your own if you have one.

Independence Day Show Out

  • Where: Palestine Municipal Airport

Classic and Modern Car/Bike Show. Sat July 6 9-1, free parking and entry for spectators! Live music by CashFord Band, vendors, food and awards for 1st-3rd in each category!

July Market on Main

  • When: 9am-1pm
  • Where: 305 East Main St, Nacogdoches

Join us downtown Nacogdoches to shop local goods, made by local people. Market on Main will be open from 9 am-1 pm. INDOOR MARKET!

Water Balloon Fest

Anyone else feeling the Texas heat yet? Beat the heat with a WATER BALLOON FEST at the Maxey House!! Wear your bathing suits and join us at 10:00 am on July 6th as we toss balloons, enjoy some wacky water balloon races, and play some yard games after everyone dries off! Adult Craft Day - Rubber Stamp Carving and Block Printing

  • When: 10am-12pm
  • Where: Longview Public Library

Our next Adult Craft adventure will be learning how to do rubber stamp carving and block printing (lino cutting)! We’ll have projects designed to teach you the basics, and have you leaving with a unique craft project. Plus, you’ll have some stamps that you can reuse for things like greeting cards, scrapbooking, and gift wrapping! Ages 18+. Supplies are provided, and seating/space is limited. Warbird Expo

Join us on Saturday and Sunday, July 6th and 7th, in Tyler, Texas for the Warbird Expo at Tyler’s Heritage Aviation Memorial Museum. The B-25 “Devil Dog”, the P-51 “QuickSilver”, will join the Gulf Coast Wing warbirds and more on the ramp. Tour the vintage planes, meet the pilots, and get your hands on the coolest airshow swag! Take a ride in one of these legendary planes! SNJ/T6 Texan: Step into the same plane that trained thousands of WWII aviators, or take an aerobatic flight in the “Pilot Maker.” Navy JRB Expeditor: Come aboard to see how a flag officer flew in WWII, or fly the whole family in VIP comfort.

Lake Murvaul Forth of July Celebration

  • When: 12pm
  • Where: Lake Murvaul’s Marina Restaurant, Carthage

Join us at Lake Murvaul on July 6th for our 2nd Annual Fourth of July Celebration! We’ve added a new event to the lineup - a floatilla around the lake, with a boat parade and prizes for the top three entries. 1st place wins $500, 2nd place wins $300, and 3rd place wins $100. Come decorate your boat and join in on the fun before the fireworks at dark.

Independence in the Pines

Classes: Match Racing Fuel Altered, Super Pro, No Box, Jr Dragster. FIREWORKS SATURDAY! Gates open: 3:00pm. Fuel Altereds at 8:00pm and 10:00pm. Fireworks to follow Finals.

Chess Club with Tyler TX Chess

  • When: 3pm-6pm
  • Where: The Board Room, Tyler

Come join us every Saturday from 4-6 pm (or whenever!) for some Red-Hot chess action! We have plenty of boards, seats, clocks, or whatever you need to get your game on. Come meet some new members of the TBRT community and let’s build the best chess club in East Texas!

Planetarium Shows

3:00 PM - Beyond the Sun ** (for Kids and Families). 4:30 PM - New Horizons (For All Ages). 7:00 PM - The Sun - Our Living Star (For All Ages). The 3:00PM show is intended for children and their families at $3 per person. The 4:30pm and 7:00pm show cost $4-$6 per ticket and are intended for all ages. Children 3 years old and under get in free. We accept cash and card payments. Ticket sales begin in the atrium of the STEM Building 30 minutes prior to the shows.

Corn Hole Tournament: Show off your skills and compete in our exciting Corn Hole Tournament. Cash and other prizes! $20 Entry Fee. Registration closes at 3:30, with games starting at 4.
