Having your own bed may seem like a pretty basic aspect of everyone’s life. However, the reality is that there are many children here in East Texas that sleep without one due to financial struggles or other setbacks. Taking this staggering fact to heart, Beds of Hope is a powerful local non-profit organization designing and providing complete beds for children to rest their heads.
THE NEED
“… some kids sleeping on the floor of the CPS office… they didn’t have beds for them.”
Back in November of 2015, Willie Faulkner and his best friend were inspired by a bed-building group in Tyler. Very quickly they saw a similar need in the Longview area and were inspired to commit to creating a non-profit that would have a positive and tangible effect on children in need.
Willie shared how in 2016 they caught word of a group of foster children, located at a local CPS office, that were in dire need of beds. Jumping into action Willie and a crew of six others spent a Saturday morning handcrafting ten special beds for these children. At that moment, Beds of Hope began their incredible impact on the East Texas community.

THE BEDS
“We’re 1800 beds into these seven years and the market’s not slowing down.”
Since that first build, the Beds of Hope team has consistently provided the basic need of a bed to thousands of children around East Texas. And that need is still growing, according to Willie. So, Beds of Hope invites local churches, non-profit groups, businesses, and whomever to come volunteer during their monthly builds. At each meetup, the team will craft anywhere from 50-70 beds in a single gathering! You can find out more about their next bed workshop day by following them on Facebook.
