The award-winning Tara Vineyard & Winery, has been a staple for East Texas wine for years now. But did you know this family-owned business also has a passion for craft beer? That’s right, the Pierce family started Athens Brewing Co. nearly 8yrs ago, in what now has become a home for freshly brewed beer, mouthwatering meals, and good times all around.

“We’ve made about 34 different beers. We try to keep around 11 on tap.”
William Pierce, Co-Owner of the brewery, shared with us the passion of creating great tasting beer. With the expertise of legendary local brewer, Mike Sipowicz and their “five-barrel system” on hand, Athens Brewing Co. has everything at their disposal to develop world class craft beer.
As you sit down at the bar, you are met by friendly bartenders, as well as a giant chalkboard filled with their Year-Round and Seasonal Brews. And wow do they have a variety. The crowd favorite, according to William is their Apricot Ale, which is sort of a blonde styled ale brewed with fermented fruit. While some of their other stand-outs include their Red Dog, if you enjoy IPAs, and the Firehouse Stout.
Looking for “Not Beer?” You can also enjoy various cocktails and wine straight from Tara Vineyards! They also have regular soft drinks if you want something non-alcoholic.

Yes, the beer here at Athens Brewing Co. is certainly the focal point. However, the food is incredible! The crew whipped up some of their long-cut fried pickles for us that were so fresh and delicious. As they were showing us around the kitchen, we got to watch them finish up a Monte Cristo for a customer. This sandwich was immaculate, showered with powdered sugar and berry jam on the side. LOCAL CAMARADERIE
What makes Athens Brewing Co. so special is the community that takes place within its walls. Literally on the back wall, they have a giant bulletin board filled with Polaroid photos of locals who enjoy their time there with family and friends, and even some pets by the look of some of the photos. As we hung out with the crew for the afternoon, we felt right at home.
Whether it’s kicking outside on their clean, spacious patio or enjoying an evening with friends on top of the second-story indoor loft, you are bound to create some great memories here. Athens Brewing Co. also offers routine events to really bring people together like with their Thursday Night Trivia Nights or their most recent Painting with Pints.
