Episcopal's Sarah Bonnecaze pushes the ball doen field as Sacred Heart defender Aimee Landry moves in to defend on Tuesday night at Episcopal.

Though she graduated last month, Episcopal’s Sarah Bonnecaze received one last high school honor on Thursday. The TCU signee is the Louisiana Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2024.

Bonnecaze, a midfielder, led the Knights to a 21-2-1 record and a runner-up finish in Division IV. She finished the season with 52 goals and 45 assists.

“Sarah has another level on the pitch,” said Sean Esker, the Louisiana High School Soccer Association president. “When she turns it on, she puts the entire team on her shoulders.”

Winning the Louisiana award makes Bonnecaze eligible to win the Gatorade national award. The award celebrates the nation’s top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Bonnecaze volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge. She has donated her time to BRSC Unified Soccer, a free program for players with intellectual and physical challenges. Bonnecaze also maintained a weighted 4.28 GPA in the classroom.

She joins recent Gatorade Louisiana Girls Soccer Players of the Year Faith Johnston (2022-23, Parkview Baptist) and Kelsey Major (2021-22; 2020-21, Dominican).
