Emmanuel Macron and Jill Biden held hands as world leaders arrived for the 75th Nato summit.
Mr Macron and Mrs Biden smiled as they joined hands and posed for pictures at the South Portico of the White House on Wednesday to mark the start of the three day conference in Washington.
Joe Biden and his wife were seen meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, the Nato secretary-general of and Mr Macron as they arrived.
The French president is known for his warm displays with world leaders, having put on a similar one recently with the Brazilian president in the Amazonian jungle.
Mr Macron’s wife, Bridgette Macron, recently broke Royal protocol by attempting to hold the Queen’s hand during a D-Day memorial in France.
