The Worst VP Pick Ever
Steve Schmidt: “I always knew it was theoretically possible that Sarah Palin would one day be eclipsed by a candidate more dishonest, fraudulent and weird than her. In the way I know it is possible for aliens to arrive tomorrow, I’ve always known it was possible that one day someone as equally unfit and terrifying could emerge. I just didn’t think I’d live to see it.”
“Yet, here we are in 2024, and the man who believes Putin is our friend and cat ladies are a threat is poised to be a heartbeat away from the presidency if Donald Trump wins.”
“There are many things that can be said about Donald Trump, starting with the fact that he was found liable for raping a woman. He is a convicted felon and a scumbag of extraordinary dimensions, who has desecrated the American presidency, the truth, decency and the concept of integrity. His awfulness is beyond debate — just as his unfitness is. Now, he has relieved John McCain from the record books for worst pick ever with his bearded Palin.”
J.D. Vance and ‘Childless Cat Ladies’
Nick Catoggio: “There’s a lot that’s irksome about Vance’s attempt to divide America into tribes of parents and ‘cat ladies’ but we can start with the obvious: It’s shockingly callous, even by the gutter standards of populist-nationalist chuds.”
“After all, not everyone is childless by choice. Social media is filled this week with stories from hopeful parents who had their dreams dashed by tragedy. Some suffered miscarriages; some had bad luck with IVF; some didn’t meet the right person before their window for having children closed. Last year, in a piece for the Institute for Family Studies, one author recalled being told by a CDC researcher that no less than 80 percent of women of childbearing age plan or hope to have children someday. Many won’t get their wish.”
“Should we treat them as unfit for office because of it? What about parents whose children died in childhood, leaving them untethered to America’s future?”

Quote of the Day
“Vance does worse in his home region at -16 points than he does in the average of all polls… So the people who know him best, the region that knows him best, they like him even less than America likes him.”

“The election authorities of at least 48 states, both Republicans and Democrats, say there are no obstacles that would prevent Vice President Kamala Harris from getting on election ballots if she becomes the official Democratic presidential nominee, as expected.” CNN reports.
“The 48 states (plus the District of Columbia) whose election authorities have said the official Democratic nominee will not have ballot issues include the seven states with the closest margins in the 2020 election, which are widely considered the key swing states again in 2024: Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan and Nevada.”
J.D. Vance Suggested Purging the Federal Workforce
“While Donald Trump’s agenda and a massive think tank document clearly indicate his second-term strategy for federal workers, nothing captures those plans as succinctly as a statement made by his running mate,” the Washington Post reports.
“If Sen. J.D. Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, were to give Trump ‘one piece of advice,’ he said in 2021, it would be ‘fire every single mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state. Replace them with our people.'”

J.D. Vance Backed Higher Taxes for Those without Children
“As former President Donald Trump’s new running mate, J.D. Vance, faces renewed scrutiny over his previous comments criticizing childless individuals, an unearthed 2021 interview shows the Ohio senator advocating for higher taxes on Americans without children,” ABC News reports.
Said Vance: “If you are making $100,000, $400,000 a year and you’ve got three kids, you should pay a different, lower tax rate than if you are making the same amount of money and you don’t have any kids. It’s that simple.”
Harris Strikes the Right Note on Gaza
Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to satisfy President Biden’s critics on the left with her comments about Gaza last night, Politico reports.

Axios reports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not happy with Harris’ comments after their meeting during which she pushed for a ceasefire.
