A West New York woman has been indicted by a grand jury in the death of a man police say she struck in the head with a coffee mug more than six months ago, authorities said.

Alina Lescaille, 55, has been charged with manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon for the April 4 incident that occurred at 4621 Broadway in Union City, where she resided at the time, Hudson County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Ray Worrall said.

Bernardo Maurin, 63, who had a relationship with Lescaille, was brought to the Jersey City Medical Center with a laceration on his head and he died three days later, Worrall said. The initial criminal complaint said they were husband and wife, but authorities say there is conflicting information regarding their relationship.

It is believed that Maurin, of West New York, had existing medical issues, so Lescaille was not charged with homicide at the time. Autopsy results from the state Medical Examiner's office came back in August and the case was then sent to the grand jury, Worrall said.

Lescaille, was indicted on Sept. 7, is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and she has not appeared in court for her arraignment yet.

The homicide is the 21st in Hudson County this year and the second in Union City. Eddie Gonzalez Jr., 2, died in a fire in March, and his father, Eddie Gonzalez Sr., and Edwin Diaz were charged with manslaughter. Diaz pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter on Aug. 31.
