Now, Reese is continuing to ensure that she belongs in the Rookie of the Year conversation, as she has become the first rookie this season to net a WNBA Player of the Week honor.

Reese was given the honor for the Eastern Conference after securing 16.8 points per game, 14.0 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game. She joins reigning MVP A'Ja Wilson for the Western Conference as POTW, with Wilson bringing in 25.2 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game.

According to the official WNBA Twitter/X page, Angel Reese is the first rookie this season to take home Player of the Week honors. While on her way to making history for the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season, she averaged 16.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game for games played thru Week 7.

Reese continues to play at a high level and helped the Sky secure a 2-1 record from July 2-7. The Sky took on the Atlanta Dream on July 2, which saw Reese secure 12 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. The Sky would win by a final score of 85-77.

On July 5, the Sky took on the Seattle Storm. They would win with a final score of 88-84, with Reese bringing in 27 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

On July 7, the Sky and Storm faced off yet again. This time, the Storm would be victorious with a final score of 84-71. Despite the loss, Reese amassed 17 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and one block.

Sunday, Reese set the record for consecutive double-doubles, with her 13th in a row. Reese has now surpassed Parker, who set the record of 12 between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

It took Parker two seasons to secure this number, and Reese has surpassed it with plenty of games left on the 2024 schedule. By season's end, Reese could add on a few more double-doubles. Securing 13 in a row is already impressive enough, but she continues to showcase an elite skillset that could lead to a few more happening in the next few games.

The Sky and Reese will next take on the Dream again on July 10. Reese secured a career-high 19 rebounds during their last match on July 2. Though it would be believed the Dream will alter their plans to best the Sky, Reese could still find her way into securing 14 consecutive double-doubles.

Correction 7/10/24, 7:49 p.m. EST: This article was altered to correct Angel Reese being the first WNBA rookie in 2024 to win Player of the Week.
