Fani Willis Challenger Nearly Doubles Campaign Donations

The Republican candidate challenging Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia has nearly doubled her campaign donations, new campaign finance data shows.

Courtney Kramer, an attorney who has worked in the Donald Trump White House and for the Trump campaign, has raised $46,641 between May and July, bringing her campaign's total contributions to more than $72,900. The latest financial disclosures, released Sunday, show that the recent haul almost doubles the $26,320 that Kramer raised between March and April.

Kramer announced her candidacy against Willis, who brought Georgia's election interference case against Trump almost a year ago, on March 8.

Although Willis has not yet released her latest fundraising numbers, her campaign already dwarfs Kramer's in donations. Contributions to Willis' campaign span almost two years, while Kramer has been in the race only four months.

Willis, who has been raising money for her reelection since June 2022, has raked in $572,750—a figure almost eight times as high as her opponent's.

Kramer's candidacy comes as Willis has led one of the highest-profile prosecutions in the nation. Willis indicted Trump and 18 of his allies in August, alleging that their efforts to overturn the state's 2020 presidential election results violated Georgia's racketeering law.

Earlier this year, Willis became the center of controversy after a court filing from one of Trump's co-defendants revealed that she was in a relationship with one of the special prosecutors on the case. Their relationship led to a dramatic evidentiary hearing. Although the judge ultimately allowed Willis to remain on the case, the proceedings related to those co-defendants have been halted while an appeal of the judge's ruling is reviewed by the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Kramer has been an outspoken critic of Willis and the case against Trump. She has called the DA's conduct a "disgrace to the legal community," telling Real America's Voice that "it's disgusting to see her not follow her rules of professional conduct or take her oath of office seriously,"

Kramer had been expected to raise large sums from Trump supporters across the country, but she is still the underdog in the race. Fulton County is heavily Democratic. The county has not elected a Republican presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in 1972. Trump won only 26 percent of its vote in 2020.

Former Senator Kelly Loeffler, a prominent Georgia Republican, is the top contributor to Kramer's campaign. Loeffler, who lost to Democrat Raphael Warnock in a 2021 special election to keep her seat, has donated $6,600 to Kramer. During her campaign, Loeffler touted her "100 percent Trump voting record."

Former Senator David Perdue, who also lost his special election in 2021, has also helped raise money for Kramer's campaign through fundraising events. However, data from the Georgia Campaign Finance System does not show an individual donation under his name.
