About Us

Adult Learning is part of Shetland Islands Council's Community Planning and Development Service. We provide flexible one to one support and classes, to help adults build the skills and confidence to achieve their goals. This includes informal learning to improve reading, writing and numbers, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), digital skills, skills for learning and work, budgeting and family learning. The following lists our current areas of work:

Our programmes include:

  • Community based adult learning

    A programme of community based classes and workshops throughout Shetland. These include, art, crafts, music, digital, health and wellbeing, music and dance, cooking on a budget and languages.

  • Communications, numeracy and employability

    Individual support and classes for adults who want to improve their reading, writing, digital or number skills. Help with applications, interview skills, employability and everyday tasks such as budgeting.

  • English for speakers of other languages

    Classes and individual support for adults who speak English as an additional language.
