Review

Atop a hill overlooking Ornos Bay, Kalesma Mykonos has an undeniable sense of place, with a timeless yet modern design, divine food and top notch hospitality. The classic Cycladic blue has been replaced with a seductive black, infusing the property with a chic and elevated ease, and the traditional Greek chapel is filled with contemporary art. But despite the elevated modern feel (or perhaps because of it), from the moment of arrival, the property invites guests to leave stress behind. Owners Makis Kousathanas and Aby Saltiel came together in 2021 to build their dream hotel on the island where they would spend their summer holidays growing up—and it shows. In keeping with tradition, Mr. Saltiel can often be found welcoming guests and having dinner with new friends at the restaurant.

Each of the 25 tranquil suites and villas has an outdoor shower and large terrace; guests can wake up to breakfast on the deck or relax in their private plunge pool enjoying the Aegean air. For those seeking the utmost privacy, the ideal option is the one-bedroom suite with a partial sea view. The villas are more spacious than the suites, and some even have an outdoor kitchen, which allows for a catered barbecue. Additional perks include a private pool, personal kitchen, bathtub, in-room spa treatments and gym equipment such as a yoga mat, light weights and a jump rope. For larger groups, Kalesma has three- and four-bedroom villas that can be combined to accommodate up to 14 guests.

Ornos Bay is a quick walk away for guests hoping to visit the beach, and the concierge onsite can ensure the best reservations in town with advance notice. Communal spaces include a pool connected to the renowned Pere Ubu restaurant and a fire pit lounge, where guests have the option to mingle with other in-the-know travelers.  There is a small, communal gym in the main building, as well as a two-room treatment center with Dr. Barbara Sturm products. The restaurant, while open to the public, is best enjoyed with a pre-booked reservation to ensure the exclusivity of your visit.
