For all sit-down breakfast or brunch spots on Martha’s Vineyard, it is best to get there early. Most do not accept reservations and are quite popular during the high season.

Hidden just off Main Street, with a whimsical garden patio, Among the Flowers has been delighting the shoppers (and workers) of Edgartown with its breakfast, smoothies and salads for years. The restaurant is also great for lunch. 17 Mayhew Ln.

Right across from the Charlotte Inn, Rosewater Market is a charming bakery, breakfast and lunch spot that doubles as an artsy gift shop. More of a counter spot than a sit-down restaurant, Rosewater only has a small amount of seating inside and on the patio. 20 S Summer St.

This no frills, family-owned breakfast spot right by Oak Bluffs Harbor serves one of the best breakfasts on the island, with a mix of traditional options and southern favorites. 26 Lake Ave

A local favorite for decades (it opened in 1943 as the Captain St. Clair Brown Diner), The ArtCliff serves such delectable breakfast as almond-crusted French toast and “Drunken Sailor” pancakes with pecans and rum raisins. 39 Beach Rd.

Tucked behind the courthouse, away from the bustle of Main Street, the casual Espresso Love is a wonderful place for a bagel sandwich and cappuccino or a salad during a shopping spree. 17 Church St.

Lookout Tavern’s lobster roll has been voted the best by Cape Cod Life eleven years in a row, and its sushi was voted the best on the island ten years in a row. The aptly named restaurant also sports views of the water from the outdoor patio. 8 Seaview Ave

Featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, Waterside Market is packed in the summer season with visitors and locals craving their famous “CAB” sandwich (chicken, avocado and bacon)—though it serves a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and breakfast all-day. 82 Main St.

7aFoods redefined the packed beach lunch game when it opened in 2011, serving a rotating menu of sandwiches (you can’t go wrong with anything involving the focaccia) and house-baked goodies. 1045 State Rd.

Employing a subtle, sea-chic vibe, Bettini serves up ocean and lighthouse views alongside a tasty coastal American menu, with perhaps the best wine list on the island. 131 N Water St.

A feast for the senses, Red Cat Kitchen is many locals and travelers go-to gastronomic restaurant on the island, with innovative and delicious food and cozy ambiance. 6 Circuit Ave

Beach Road serves a sophisticated American menu—think bouillabaisse, lamb ragu and cauliflower steak—with sweeping views of a lagoon. 79 Beach Rd

This Italian spot opened in 2020 as Napoli chef Salvatore della Torre’s ode to the kitchens of his home country. The menu is everything you’d expect of an authentic Italian place on Martha’s Vineyard: classics like carbonara and amatriciana with at least one dish featuring lobster. 20 Union St.

Flanked by vegetable and herb gardens, the idyllic State Road appears to be no more than a charming country home, but island regulars know it to be a fine-dining destination. 688 State Rd.

With sweeping views of the Vineyard Sound, a well-regarded prefix menu and a lawn on which to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner, Outermost Inn is an up-island favorite. 81 Lighthouse Rd.

Family-owned Edgartown Seafood Market does not disappoint when it comes to fresh seafood and takeout. Though there are no tables, Cannonball Park is right across the street with benches on which to enjoy a lobster roll. 138 Cooke St.

The underdog of Martha’s Vineyard’s ice cream scene, this small ice cream and candy shop on the Edgartown harbor is the ultimate sweet-tooth satisfier. 11 Dock St.

Fudge lovers can’t miss Murdick’s, and even the sweet-averse will be hard-pressed to turn away from the sugary scent surrounding this island institution. Multiple Locations

Though the secret of Back Door Donuts is good and out, these tasty treats still draw long lines around the back of the bakery every night at 7:00 p.m. 1-11 Kennebec Ave

There’s plenty of tasty (and overpriced) ice cream on the island, but Carousel takes the cake when it comes to soft serve, though the traditional ice cream rarely disappoints either. 15 Circuit Ave

Head straight to the dessert case at this bakery and café, which satisfies every sweet craving, whether you’re seeking cookies, cake, pastries or something new (the mousse bomb is a chocolate-lover’s dream). 509 State Rd.
