After scoring his first Emmy nomination for his work in the fifth season of FX’s crime anthology Fargo, Lamorne Morris hopped on the phone with Deadline to tease Sony’s SNL 1975 and Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, also discussing his hopes for the future of his career.
Of SNL 1975, Morris said, “Jason Reitman directed the hell out of this thing. It’s a great look at day one at SNL, the ups and downs, how the show almost didn’t happen, the characters. Lorne Michaels, played by Gabe Labelle, trying to manage all these personalities, all while getting this show on the air. Obviously, now, we know 50 years later what this show has become, but to see the origin of it and the actors on this movie will blow your mind.”

Survival of the Thickest star Michelle Buteau is promising a “bigger and blacker and better” season two as filming commences amid a mixture of emotions for the co-creator and co-executive producer for the show, whose work on season one alongside her cast and crew was locked out of this year’s Emmys nominations due to a “glitch” in the submission process.
Co-created and co-executive produced by Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show, New Girl) and based on Buteau’s 2020 book of the same name, the A24-produced scripted comedy debuted on the eve of last year’s historic SAG-AFTRA strike and in February was revealed by its star to be returning for season two.
Now, the comedian, TV host, and author is back on set as the next chapter of Survival of the Thickest begins. It’s an arc where everyone is “taking chances” and “putting themselves out there,” Buteau promises,...

Crack out the egg creams folks — new Spider-Man Noir news coming at you faster than you can swing a punch at a Nazi! Back in May, we learned that Nicolas Cage is set to reprise his Spider-Verse role as a 30s Pi take on everybody's favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in a new live-action Prime Video series. Today, per Deadline's reporting, we've learned that the series — formerly Noir, now more synergistically titled Spider-Noir — has added comic actor Lamorne Morris to its cast, with the New Girl star set to play Robbie Robertson in the show.
One of the first major black characters in comic books, Robertson — first seen in The Amazing Spider-Man #51 back in 1967 — has regularly featured as a Daily Bugle journo. What's more, in the Spider-Man Noir: Eyes Without A Face run, Robertson appeared as a reporter at The Negro World, speaking out against racism and tangling with Doc Ock...

MGM+ and Prime Video’s live-action Spider-Noir series continues to weave a delicate web of talent as New Girl and Fargo actor Lamorne Morris joins the cast. The Sony Pictures-produced series, starring Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, is one of the most anticipated projects spinning out of the studio’s Spider-Verse, which has had trouble keeping hope alive after the disastrous reception of Madame Web. Lamorne Morris plays Robbie Robertson in Spider-Noir, a determined workhorse and dedicated journalist. As an embattled black professional in 1930s New York, Robertson tackles the stories no one else wants to touch to make ends meet. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep his head above water in a city overrun with mystery and crime.

There are very few shows so cherished in the streaming era that they make headlines moving from one platform to another. It happened when “The Office” moved to Peacock, when “Friends” moved to Max (then HBO Max), when “New Girl” moved to Hulu — and it happened when “Lost” first left Netflix years ago, then made its triumphant return earlier this week.
The unforgettable plane crash drama created by J.J. Abrams, Damond Lindelof, and Jeffrey Lieber turns 20 later this year, and is still regarded as one of the most exceptional and important TV series of the century, if not all time. “Lost” was a masterclass in ensemble storytelling and high-end production in the pre-“Game of Thrones” world (for an emphatically non-“Game of Thrones” series). Even the polarizing finale is gaining defenders with the help of hindsight and nostalgia for how it fits into the seres’ bigger picture.

Crafting the perfect TV family can be tricky. Most thrive off dysfunction — everything from “Arrested Development” to its genre-bent counterpart “Succession” — while many focus instead on found family among friends, coworkers, or community. At least one on-air drama is about the perils of inbreeding and bad communication between loved ones, so we wouldn’t exactly call it a family show.
In classic sitcoms starting with “Leave it to Beaver,” there was the idea of the model family (passed down so overtly as to inspire a “Boy Meets World” episode literally called “Model Family” that explicitly sites the Cleavers). From “Family Ties” to “Full House” to “Sister Sister,” the nuclear family was the beating heart of a TV show, with a kind of wholesome chemistry and dynamic that sometimes feels lost now.
But like every TV genre, the family comedy is alive, thriving, and evolving — perhaps nowhere as brilliantly as Apple’s “Trying,...

The always entertaining Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead, Nightmare Cinema, Pooka Lives!) is back with The Inheritance, and a new clip introduces some of the Abernathy family that’s reuniting just in time for the horror.
Originally titled The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy, Vertical will release The Inheritance in select theaters and on demand July 12, and Bloody Disgusting is debuting the official trailer today. The trailer starts out conventionally enough, with an old billionaire inviting his children to his estate to let them know he doesn’t have much more time left to live.

Comedy rules are made to be broken. If all laughter comes from some great psychological misdirect, then it follows that the funniest series are the ones that continue to take the unexpected routes. Some of the greatest comedies in contemporary television are arguably not comedies at all, but find moments of levity between nonstop tension and heartbreaking drama. FX’s “The Bear,” now premiering a third season, has fans and Emmy voters begging for the high-octane stress of a Chicago kitchen and clinging to the hope that any scene will end in laughter instead of tears (or an accidental stabbing).
Sometimes a comedy is memorable because of the rules that it inadvertently puts in place. Some foundational TV series have endured not because they were ratings or cultural juggernauts in their time, but because their spiritual descendants dotted programming lineups years — maybe even decades — after their cameras stopped rolling. As in other realms of entertainment,...

This week, AppleTV+ brings us Land of Women, starring Eva Longoria as Gala, a woman who has to flee her luxurious Manhattan life when a couple of hired goons crash the opening of her brand-new wine shop to say her husband Fred (James Purefoy) owes their boss $15 million. Gala gathers her mother Julia (Carmen Maura) and teen daughter Kate (Victoria Bazua) and sets off for La Muga, Julia’s hometown in Catalonia, to hide from Fred’s shady creditor and plot her next move.

Jeff Kober has thrived on playing the baddie for much of his long career. The prolific actor has almost 150 credits to his name with stops on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X Files, Walker, Texas Ranger, The Walking Dead, New Girl, and NCIS: Los Angeles to name a few. Then there are more regular roles like Jacob Hale Jr. on Sons of Anarchy, Sgt. Dodger Winslow on China Beach, and most recently, on General Hospital where he won an Emmy for his portrayal of shady Cyrus Renault. Next up is the pool shark thriller Break, where he takes on the role of pool hall hustler “The Hand” Jimmy. In the film, he looks to stand in the way of Eli (Darren Weiss), the hotshot son of a former rival, from honoring his legendary dad and former rival’s legacy. Here the veteran actor talks about the project and reminisces about some of his favorite parts.

Lilly stepping down from the film industry could also mean that she’s no longer available for the role of Hope van Dyne in the MCU. While the future of the character is currently undecided in the MCU, Lilly’s retirement could open doors for another actress.

There’s nothing more entertaining in the world of TV than a sitcom. You can just turn on a funny ensemble cast show and just chill for several hours while the characters go on with their bizarre storylines that will definitely make you laugh.
For many of us one of the most rewatchable sitcoms has been The Big Bang Theory, but redditors suggest you pay enough attention to these 5 shows instead.
1. New Girl (2011-2018)
For fans of quirky characters, this sitcom is a perfect choice. When a young girl named Jess finds out that her boyfriend is a cheater, she has to move out and start a new life on her own. But instead – she ends up in a loft with three single guys.
Needless to say, they all have their cringeworthy traits, and together they form the most dysfunctional group you can imagine. Anyway, somehow they make it work.

Lamorne Morris’ three-year-old daughter is getting used to seeing her dad’s face all over town. Morris is the spokesperson for Bmo bank, which recently arrived in Southern California with an advertising blitz — all with Morris’ face on it.
Now, the actor says she’s ready to start her creative career as well. Sort of. He tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast that whenever his daughter gets in trouble at school, they send her home a bit early and she gets to join her dad at work. And that’s where the fun begins.
“She’s now quite accustomed to being on set,” Morris said. “When the Ad will say quiet on set or rolling, she will start to let everyone know that it’s time to be quiet on set. So much so that she’s now the loud one. She won’t stop screaming: ‘Quiet on set!'...

Nowadays, it seems like a quaint notion that a television series might stay on the air long enough to run out of ideas.
But almost fifty years ago, even a successful show like Happy Days wasn't immune to using outlandish stunts to bolster ratings.
And thank goodness for that, or we might all have been deprived of the cultural touchstone that is Fonzie jumping the shark.
Fonzie Jumps the Shark (And Enters History)
The phrase "jump the shark" has become shorthand for the moment when a television show loses its creative way and begins a downward spiral in quality and popularity.
However, when the actual shark jump happened in the "Hollywood: Part 3" episode of the show's fifth season, Happy Days hit number one in the Nielsen ratings.
The series aired for another six well-received seasons and even had successful spinoffs in the sitcoms Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.

“I was kinda disappointed originally,” admits Lamorne Morris about his character’s ending on “Fargo.” In our recent webchat he adds, “As an actor you want to be this hero with your shirt off and a six-pack. You want to be Denzel Washington, but that doesn’t serve the story all the time. The way this went down served the story.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. Asked how he was faring, he quipped on speakerphone, “Oh, I’m good! I’m in the car, just driving at high speeds recklessly. Very, veeery recklessly.”
The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. A childhood spent in the American midwest helped him with the accent and demeanor needed for Deputy Witt Farr. The North Dakota highway patrolman has a surprise encounter in Episode 1 “The Tragedy of the Commons” with the scrappy Dot Lyon (Juno Temple) and menacing...

There are many ways to end a show, and all of them have been done. We've seen characters move on to symbolize moving on with their lives, like Friends and New Girl. We've been hit with the realization of the purgatory nature of Lost's setup. We've seen Game of Thrones ruin everyone's hopes and dreams and twist the story in the final moments.
With some better than others, the finale of favorite series is always sad to watch. And even the shows which went viral all over the internet for being nonsensical and outright offensive at parts, deserve to have an episode that sets the characters off to lives behind the cameras. ABC’s The Good Doctor is not an exception.

The post-event TV lead-out is a delicate thing. Whenever major television telecasts – like, say, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, or the premiere or finale of a super-high-rated reality show – end, something has to come on afterward, and most shows chosen for the coveted slot take the responsibility very seriously. Lead-out programming usually catches hundreds of thousands if not millions of extra eyes since watch parties all over the country get caught up chatting or celebrating and fail to change the channel. Or, better yet, they get hooked on the first few minutes of whatever show's in front of them.

The friendships on New Girl are just as important to the series as the romantic relationships. The show wouldn’t be what it is without the unique dynamics of the central friend group, both as a whole and within different pairings. Wiseman, who departed as head of comedy at the streaming giant in 2020, will serve as head of U.S. television and report directly to Holland.

The hire marks a reunion for Wiseman and Holland, who both worked together for seven years at the streaming giant. Wiseman joined Netflix in 2013 as an early member of Holland’s content team and developed hits including Dead to Me, Russian Doll, Grace and Frankie, Master of None, Narcos, Ozark and Big Mouth, among others.
Since exiting Netflix, Wiseman has served as a consultant for a variety of streamers and most recently was at Amazon MGM Studios.
