Chris Hemsworth Charlie Day - H 2014
AP ImagesChris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are taking a little Vacation.
The actors are in negotiations to sign on for roles in New Line’s reboot-slash-remake to the classic 1980s comedy series that starred Chevy Chase. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote the script and are making their directorial debut.
The new movie sees Ed Helms starring as Rusty Griswold, the grown-up son of Clark Griswold (Chase) who takes his family on a road trip similar to the one he and his parents and sister took when he was young.
Christina Applegate is on board as Rusty’s wife. Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are to make cameos in the movie, which begins shooting in September after having been delayed.
Hemsworth, who sources say has been itching to do a comedy for awhile, will play Stone Crandall, an up-and-coming anchorman and the husband of Rusty’s sister, Audrey. The latter part has not yet been cast.
Day will cameo as a river-rafting guide.
Chris Bender of Benderspink and David Dobkin are producing. Jeff Kleeman is exec producing.
Hemsworth recently wrapped the Moby Dick-inspired drama In the Heart of the Sea and has The Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out May 1, 2015. He is repped by CAA, ROAR and Gang Tyre.
Day is a New Line favorite, having starred in the company’s hit comedy Horrible Bosses. The actor, who appeared in Pacific Rim last summer, has Horrible Bosses 2 readying for a Nov. 26 release. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment
The new movie is based on characters created by John Hughes, who wrote the script for the 1983 original based on his own family vacations.
Aug. 25, 3:40 p.m. The story has been updated to include the name of Hemsworth’s character.
