House Republicans Are Fighting To Protect Americans From Biden’s Unnecessary Bans And Regulations

  • Dusty Johnson
Today, House Republicans will bring to the Floor two bills that will stand up against Joe Biden and Far Left Democrats' burdensome regulations and radical bans that are part of Biden’s failed Far Left anti-American energy agenda.

The Refrigerator Freedom Act and the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards (SUDS) Act prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy efficiency standards for residential refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers that are not technologically feasible and economically justified. They are likely to result in additional net costs to consumers and are not likely to result in significant conservation of energy.

MAKE NO MISTAKE: Biden’s failed Far Left anti-American energy agenda has burdened American families with skyrocketing energy prices, taken away consumer choice, and hampered economic growth.

FACTS ABOUT THE REFRIGERATOR FREEDOM ACT & SUDS ACT (Courtesy of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Republicans):
  • House Republicans are leading on bills to protect American families by ensuring the products they rely on for their homes are affordable and reliable:
    • H.R. 7637, Refrigerator Freedom Act (Rep. Miller-Meeks, R-IA)
    • H.R. 7700, Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act (Rep. Langworthy, R-NY)
  • These bills will protect affordability, quality, and choice for residential refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers by reinforcing the consumer protection measures in current law and establishing clear prohibitions for rulemakings related to specific appliances.
  • These bills would prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy efficiency standards for refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers that are:
    • NOT technologically feasible and economically justified
    • Likely to result in additional costs to Americans
    • NOT likely to result in a significant conservation of energy
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • For refrigerators and freezers, DOE's own analysis finds that efficiency mandates could increase the upfront costs by 25% and it could take consumers 10 years to payback the increased costs for a product that may only last 14-15 years.
  • For dishwashers, DOE's own analysis finds that efficiency mandates could increase the upfront cost by 28% and it could take consumers 12 years to payback the increased costs on a product that may only last 7-12 years.
