Four current and former Michigan gymnasts recently punched their tickets to the 2024 Olympics − and evidently they’re not the only Wolverines who can flip.

On Monday, Michigan football pulled off one of its biggest commitment flips in recent memory, adding four-star safety Ivan Taylor, previously pledged to Notre Dame, to its 2025 class.

Taylor, the 6-foot and 175 pound product from Winter Garden, Fla. (West Orange), is rated the No. 8 player in the Sunshine State, according to 247Sports composite rankings, which also lists the defensive back as the nation’s No. 5 safety and the No. 50 overall player in the rising senior class.

It’s no surprise Taylor is such a highly regarded prospect given his football pedigree. His father, Ike Taylor, was a former NFL cornerback and two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who finished with 134 pass break ups and 14 interceptions across 140 games from 2003-14.

As for Ivan, who committed to Notre Dame last December, he took another trip to South Bend on June 14, but then the following week he made the trek to Ann Arbor, which appeared to be enough to turn the tide.

“A high-IQ safety prospect with elite NFL bloodlines and a top-flight testing profile,” wrote Andrew Irvins, the director of scouting for 24/7 Sports. “Quick-footed with plenty of agility. Has spent most of prep career working in two-deep system and has shown that he can get where he needs to be.

“Should be viewed as a potential, multi-year starter for a top 25 program. Likely to find a home at the third level of a defense, but sticky enough in man-coverage to possibly warrant a look as an inside corner on Saturdays.”

Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson catches a pass and goes for a 79-yard touchdown against Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor during the second quarter at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Nov. 17, 2013.

It continues what has been not only an impressive summer haul for the Wolverines, but an extremely impressive first recruiting class for new defensive backs coach Lamar Morgan. With the addition of Ivan Taylor, U-M now has three top-100 prospects in the 2025 group.

Ivan Taylor is now the 13th commit in head coach Sherrone Moore’s first recruiting class, which ranks No. 22 in the country with more expected blue chippers on the way.
