After her wife Anna Kintz founded a micro-bakery, Poot’s Provisions, Liz Kintz found herself immersed in St. Louis’ dining scene. Although her background is in software sales and management, she spends time in the garden, cooks for friends and family and even fly fishes. “I’ve always had a passion for cooking and hosting,” Kintz says, “but I never thought of this as the industry I may land in.”
Now, with Poot’s continued success, Kintz has joined Jordan Goodman (owner of Good Ice, a premium clear ice company), Kyle Gillespie and Daisy Hudspeth (veteran bartender and hospitality pro, respectively) to form Good Company, a neighborhood cocktail bar and restaurant recently opened in The Grove. Here, she talks about the team’s plans.

How did you link up with Good Ice and Good Company?
To be honest, I started following them on Instagram and noticed a post for part-time help. I met with Jordan and Kyle and was immediately intrigued. As I started working with them, it became evident that we shared a similar work ethic and had a mutual vision of where the company could go. Day in and day out, Jordan and Kyle were in the shop doing what needed to be done to serve their clients. Good Ice quickly became an outlet for me – to get me out of the house and into a routine I so badly wanted again. One day while working on the bandsaw with Jordan cutting ice, I told him we would be interested in investing further into the business; I knew we could take it to the next level. Today, my primary role is overseeing our shop production while building and maintaining new and existing client relationships.

Why do you think Good Ice and Good Company are important for St. Louis and vice-versa?
Spending time traveling outside of Missouri has made us realize just how much potential is here in St. Louis, which is one reason we wanted to be a part of Good Ice and Good Company long-term. I believe in our product and the benefits it brings to the St. Louis community – if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be working with our team. On a community level, we’re bringing employment opportunities that will let our staff work within both Good Company and Good Ice as they wish, allowing for daytime opportunities that some in the industry may be longing for. Good Company aims to bring a great dining experience with high-touch service [to The Grove] and provide high-quality ingredients and of course premium ice products from Good Ice. You will certainly see more to come from us in the future!

Poot’s has been busy! And we expect things to get busier [this] summer. We continue to see new growth and returning customers, which helps Anna continue to pursue her passion for Poot’s. We recently invested in a bread oven that allows her to double her bread-baking capacity, and we’re also [utilizing] Market Wagon, an online ordering platform that supports local farmers and bakers and delivers goods directly to your door. We’re seeking our own commercial space with potential for a retail storefront in the future. We’d like to continue to participate in the University City Farmers Market to support our community; although the traffic is not what the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market brings, it feels important to us to bring joy through our goods to those who live just down the street.
