2024 Player Outlook

During his first season under Broncos head coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi, Wilson finished as QB15 with 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 341 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Not a bad showing considering he was learning a new offense on a struggling team, but he was never really in their rebuild plans and considering how much money he was owed, the Broncos thought it best to bench him late in the season to avoid injury and try to deal him. With no takers, Denver ultimately released him in March and ate the $85M dead-cap hit. He quickly signed with the Steelers and is expected to start, despite the team's trade for Justin Fields. The 35-year-old could be a decent fit for Arthur Smith's offense as it is a run-heavy scheme designed to open things up further downfield. Last season, Wilson ranked third in the NFL with 12.6-percent of his passes going at least 20 yards, so if he can get protection from his offensive line, he should be usable in superflex formats. He does have a tendency to hold the ball for too long which results in a lot of sacks and check-downs, but in this scheme, the check-downs are likely to be his best friend.
