Zac Efron Recalls His Embarrassing First On-Screen Kiss: 'I'm Scarred For Life'

Zac Efron recalls his embarrassing first on-screen kiss in 'Summerland.'

Zac Efron did not pass the breath check when he had his fist on-screen kiss -- and he still regrets it.

During an interview with Elle Magazine, the High School Musical alum reflects on his most embarrassing moment while filming, and it happened during a career milestone.

"I was real young, it was my first kissing scene on a show called Summerland," Efron recalls to his A Family Affair co-star, Joey King. "And I didn't realize that eating fish was probably not a good idea and I kissed my co-star and she was like, 'Did you eat fish for lunch?' Everybody laughed, and yeah I'm scarred for life."

Efron got his big break on the short-lived teen drama as  resident heartthrob Cameron Bale. The actress on the receiving end of the smelly kiss was Kay Panabaker, who played his love interest Nikki. Summerland ran for two seasons from 2004 to 2005.

Now the 36-year-old actor is currently kissing co-star Nicole Kidman in the Netflix film, A Family Affair

In the age-gap rom-com, Kidman plays Brooke Harwood, the mom of Zara Ford (King). Things go off the rails between the mother and daughter as Brooke falls in love with Zara's boss, Chris Cole (Efron), a charming, much younger movie star.

Last month, ET spoke to Efron at the film's Los Angeles premiere and while he didn't kiss and tell when it came to Kidman, he did dish about the one thing that he wishes could do amid his fame.

"The grocery store is kind of a given one. That [scene is] actually based on something I talked to [director] Richard [LaGravenese] about. Going to the grocery store is kind of hard," Efron said.

In the film, Efron's character experiences a makeshift grocery store, which hit close to home for the star.

"I did and it was really weird," Efron said about the experience. "There were new things in the grocery store that I have not seen before and it was like oddly exciting."

A Family Affair is currently streaming on Netflix.
