Lily Collins isn't one to shy away from a DIY haircut. In fact, her iconic 'trauma bangs' during season 3 of Emily In Paris, when the Parisienne expat famously chopped her hair in a dramatic response to a convoluted love triangle, will be forever ingrained in our memory.

And now, Collins is cosplaying as a hairdresser once again, cutting her own long waves into a jaw-skimming bob. This time around though the actor has, thankfully, enlisted the expertise of her long-time hairstylist Gregory Russell to create two standout bob trends.

'Good(bye) hair day…,' she wrote on Instagram, just days before she chopped off her own flowing waves with a pair of scissors, teasing that yet another hair transformation was on the horizon.

The transformation in question was, in fact, a blunt, chin-grazing bob. 'This was an inspiration I had in my Lily folder and when she said she was open to a new look, I couldn’t wait to show her this,' shares Russell. After Collins gleefully chopped inches off her lengths using a pair of scissors, Russell then took over styling and trimming the new look into a sleek, razor-sharp bob.

The key to styling, he says, lies in simplicity. 'My advice for styling a hairstyle like this is to keep it really simple, air dried and straight - it will always look chic, timeless and ideal for any season. For a more polished look, you can roll the ends under using a heat styler or straightener,' notes Russell.

The Emily In Paris star has since been experimenting with her new bob and, in the space of 24 hours, has debuted two of the summer's most prominent bob trends. Following on from her blunt bob, a hairstyle doing the rounds in part thanks to Hailey Bieber, for the Hollywood premiere of MaXXXine, the actor stepped out with a true Hollywood bob, featuring a nostalgic side parting and glamorous curled-in, 'flippy' ends.

'This hairstyle was inspired by Isabella Rossellini’s Bob in Death Becomes Her and felt right for this premiere and her Schiaparelli Couture look,' shares Russell.

As for how to style a bob such as Lily's? 'To prep the hair, I used a pearl sized amount of Pureology Shine Bright Serum through the ends. I then used Pureology Weightless Volume Mousse though the roots of the crown and the lengths around the face for extra volume and hold,' says Russell. 'I then blew out her hair with a medium round brush rolled under. I set the front section of the hair and bangs in a pin curl to cool. Once cooled I brushed out and incorporated into the hair and set the style with Pureology Soft Hold Hairspray.'

Whether you opt for a glamorous red-carpet style or low-key blunt ends, Collins proves both the versatility of the bob and that the hairstyle du rigeur isn't going anywhere this summer.
