The Data Protection Authority was awarded the People’s Choice Award of the 45th Global Privacy Assembly held in Bermuda from 15 to 20 October. The prize was awarded for the GDPR compliance toolkit developed by the Authority. The Secretariat Director of the Authority Dr. Vasilis Zorkadis participated virtually in the ceremony of October 20th and received the award. In his short acceptance speech he noted the following:
“This award is particularly important for the Authority because it comes from colleagues that carry out the same mission of data protection and privacy. The main purpose for the development of the compliance toolkit, an online application based on cutting-edge technologies and software, was to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their efforts to comply with the GDPR taking into account their limited resources. The compliance toolkit enables controllers and processors to automatically create information and records of processing activities, processes, data protection policies, conditions of use of digital services, consent forms, data subjects’ rights forms and other compliance documents, based on a set of standard core documents. The toolkit has been well received and is often used not only by SMEs but also by professionals in the field of data protection and privacy. We are confident that this tool can effectively support all those who are trying to comply with the GDPR. At the same time, we are convinced that the provision of electronic services and tools to all interested parties will significantly assist the Authority itself in fulfilling its mission. The company ICT Abovo contributed to the development of the toolkit. Τhe project was funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020).”
