Meet the Louisville-area 2023-2024 boys Athlete of Year from Trinity High School

Trinity High School pitcher/shortstop Jake Schweitzer is The Courier Journal 2023-2024 boys Athlete of the Year, as voted by our readers.

Schweitzer was 10-1 with a 1.98 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 55 ⅔ innings during his senior season with the Shamrocks. He also batted .295 with two home runs, five doubles, 31 RBIs and 27 runs scored. The first-team All-State honoree signed with the University of Louisville.

Schweitzer also won the fan vote for The Courier Journal baseball Player of the Year.

Brady Smith, Christian Academy golf

Christian Academy senior golfer Brady Smith won his second consecutive KHSAA state championship at Bowling Green Country Club.

In October, Christian Academy senior golfer Brady Smith, who will continue his career at Louisville, won his second consecutive KHSAA state championship at Bowling Green Country Club. He carded an 8-under-par 136 and won by seven shots.

Nick Harshaw, Collegiate soccer

Collegiate's Nick Harshaw (33) was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Kentucky Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Last fall, Collegiate senior Nick Harshaw had 21 goals and 28 assists and was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Kentucky Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He also was named to the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State team and United Soccer Coaches High School All-American team. Harshaw will play for Bellarmine this fall.

Cole Hodge, Christian Academy football

As a senior, Christian Academy's Cole Hodge, an East Carolina signee, threw for 4,104 yards and 57 touchdowns and rushed for 625 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading the Centurions to their second consecutive Class 3A title. Hodge also was named the Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year. He was named second-team All-State by The Courier Journal.

Senior Johnny Crush, an Army signee, set KHSAA state championship records in the 100 freestyle (42.70 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (45.70). He was a key piece for St. Xavier's swim team, which won its 36th consecutive state championship.
