How many time zones are there in the United States?

The U.S. has four standard time zones, but nine in total between Alaska, Hawaii and other territories, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

The big four are Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, but there are five others. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are in the Atlantic Time Zone; all of Alaska besides the Aleutian Islands are in the Alaska Time Zone; the Aleutian Islands and Hawaii are in the Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone; the Samoa Zone includes American Samoa; and the Chamorro Zone includes Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
