“The long nights of the winter season mean plenty of time for romantic rendezvous,” says certified sex educator Cate Osborn. “The intimacy (and shared warmth) of snuggling up together and exploring touch and sensations can make sex even hotter.”
Get the heat going between you and your partner by literally heating things up. “Before touching or massaging your partner, you can warm your hands with hand warmers or mittens,” says certified sex and relationship coach, Renée Hilliard, MD. “You can also warm massage oil or lube between your hands or with a cup of hot water.” (Warm oil from a massage candle also works, but don’t use a regular candle—the wax is way too hot.)
Try warming lube or heated toys like vibrators, anal plugs and strokers. If you like how that feels, you can go further into full-on temperature play. Try a chilled glass or metal toy with warming lube, a heated toy with cooling lube, and/or depending on how far you want to take it, a chilled glass toy with chilled lube. If you’re still cold (valid), use the power of suggestion, says Hilliard. “If you play music during sex that you associate with summertime and heat, you can actually trick your brain and body into feeling warmer.”

Maximize skin-to-skin contact by getting as close as possible. “This position allows full body contact to keep you warm,” says Hilliard. “Sometimes the only place to get warm in the winter is in the shower, so crank up the heat and get steamy with a shared shower on a cold winter's night,” says Osborn. “Take time to explore their body—wash their hair, massage their scalp and down their neck and shoulders, and relax into each other as you wash away the day,” she says.
