2 killed in shootout at apartment complex near Kissimmee; person of interest in custody

Shooting believed to be drug-related, sheriff says

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Two men were killed early Tuesday in a shootout at an apartment complex near Kissimmee, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported after midnight on Marta Circle near Kissimmee, south of U.S. 441.

Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said deputies found three men with gunshot wounds at the complex. One was found dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital, where they later died, he said. The sheriff’s office on Wednesday identified one of the men as 20-year-old Adrian Joel Gonzales. The name of the other man, who was found dead at the scene, will not be released “due to an ongoing investigation.”

Lopez said the third person, whom he labeled a person of interest, was found in the bushes and taken to a hospital.

“Other than that, it’s an isolated incident. They were known to each other. And the individuals that came here to engage in this altercation were not from this area,” he said. “The individual that does live here, who passed, was recently moved in and we have no history of any type of altercations of this type of nature here.”

The sheriff said the investigation shows the shooting could be drug-related “based on things that we found on scene.”

“It was basically a shootout ... You know, and it’s crazy because there’s a lot of citizens, people that live here. Thank God, there was hardly nobody out during those hours when the incident occurred,” Lopez said.

The sheriff did not identify the people but said they were men in their 20s to 30s.

Video from the scene showed crime tape near a building and several evidence markers nearby.
