Fired TCH employees appeared on Ontario's Sunshine List
The five employees who were fired earlier this week from Toronto Community Housing included the company’s senior director of operations and strategic procurement and a financial controls director, CBC News has learned.
At least four of the five appeared last year on the province’s Sunshine List — indicating they drew salaries of $100,000 or more — and three received small severance payments.
All five names have been struck from TCH’s directory.
TCH has not identified the employees and has remained tight-lipped about the findings of the forensic investigation into its former subsidiary, Housing Services Inc., that led to the dismissals.
The social housing provider, which is a landlord to some 164,000 low- and moderate-income tenants around the city, was looking into allegations HSI had falsified documents. It is alleged the documents were altered so that work that was done in Ottawa was made to appear to have been done in Toronto.
"HSI worked as a general contractor and then as a subcontractor," at the TCH-owned apartment building at 200 Wellesley St. E. in the aftermath of a fire in 2010, TCH CEO Eugene Jones told reporters during a Thursday news conference.
TCH later found "anomalies" in insurance claims submitted by HSI, he said.
The findings were handed over to Toronto police on Thursday, said Jones, for possible further investigation.
"I took it over to the chief’s office personally today," said Jones.
