Northeast winds and thunderstorms in the Gulf of Mexico created larger-than-usual waves on area beaches. High tides were attributed to the Gulf storms and the moon's pull on the Earth. The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood watch for today for beaches between Port O'Connor and Baffin Bay. A tropical depression in Bay of Campeche Tuesday could bring rain to the Coastal Bend Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The depression was moving northwest Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts the depression's winds will increase to 39 mph by Thursday, becoming Tropical Storm Irene.
