Sam the Record Man sign almost ready for new debut

Toronto's famous Sam the Record Man sign may soon return to the Yonge-Dundas area. That's because Ryerson University is finally looking for a company to reinstall it atop a building at 277 Victoria St, reports the Toronto Star.

Many feared for the dazzling neon sign after Ryerson bought up the former Sam the Record Man store at 347 Yonge St - the site of the school's new Student Learning Centre.

Originally, Ryerson was going to have to reinstall the sign at its original location, but the school thought it'd clash with the SLC's design. In 2014, city council voted to remount it at 277 Victoria above Yonge-Dundas Square.

The sign has been sitting in a storage facility since it was dismantled. Ryerson has agreed to pay to restore, remount and maintain the sign, but the process has dragged out since an agreement was made to install it above the city's most tourist-friendly intersection.

News that Ryerson is soliciting bids to re-install the sign is the first indication that the plan is still in the works. So while no timeline has been given, it's nice to see the wheels records in motion.
