Turtle Power™️, apparently

So, I ordered Studio Ghiblis visual masterpiece Ponyo, and when I opened the package I got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, I'm not sure where the confusion happened- but I'm pretty sure outdated 90's puns revolving around pizza and men in turtle suits isn't really Miyazaki's style. Although, maybe if you squint, you can confuse New York skate park sewers with the vibrancies of the bright blue ocean in a little mermaid story.

I would leave a 1 star review but I didn't want to totally discredit the turtles since my dad's a fan of the classics- as he wouldn't stop talking about how much he loved the live action ridiculousness when he was a kid. However, it's not what I bought and I am eager to get the movie I actually want. I will gladly trade in the DVD I received for the heartwarming film I paid for- or get my money back. I loved Ponyo when it came out in theaters- so I would be very happy to give the 5 stars this film deserves very soon.

Amazingly Animated Film with some Dumb Adults

It's a cute Ghibli film. It's a bit more "kiddy" than a lot of their other films, but still amazingly animated with a decent story.

I never understood the Ghibli adults. Maybe it's because I'm an American and there's a ton of cultural differences, but why is every adult in every (popular) Ghibli film totally ok with a goldfish becoming human, letting children independently explore a post-apocalyptic wasteland, or just completely fine that their whole world flooded because some spirit drama happened? Oh, some random food vendor in the middle of an abandoned theme park just happens to be making food? Why not eat it? It makes for an entertaining story though, so I guess it all evens out.

That would be my only real complaint about this film. Yes, it's a bit more childish than I tend to be able to manage, but it's a film targeting a younger audience and I can accept that. My complaint comes from these adults. The mom is fine (mostly), but the other adults... There's a scene (spoilers) where, after the world has flooded, this family meets the two protagonists, who are 5 and 6 years old, and is like "oh, you're looking for you mom? She's probably fine. Why not just take your magic boat with that magic fish girl who can Jesus run across the water (which I'm just going to accept, no questions asked) and go find her yourself." The military, THE MILITARY, sails right past these children and literally say "good luck, capitan," like the kid has some sort of authority over them. I get why they do that, gotta give the kids something to do on their own. But no adult would do that.

I feel like I'm harping on the adults to much. But, my god, they ether have very low IQ, the stress from the world ending has caused everyone to snap, or the Japanese government has hardcore spiked the drinking water and everyone is just tripping constantly. I wouldn't be this upset if other kids films had smart adults and were still great (looking at you, How to Train Your Dragon).

So ya... great kids movie with beautiful animation. Just wish half the characters were smarter than a puppy.

The product arrived in perfect conditon. Ponyo is a story of little girl who is created by the sea and a little boy who lives on an island. When the two children meet, the ocean causes the world to flood and the dry land becomes limited with the only way for the world to return to normal residing with the little girl, Ponyo. The film is beautifuly animated with some of the best water life I've seen in a long time. The score is just as powerful as the animation and the charaters are well acted, with Cate Blanchette, Noah Cyrus, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Frankie Jonas, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson. Lily Tomlin, and Betty White lending their voices for the english dubbing. No suprise that this masterpiece comes from the legendary Studion Ghibli. This comes with both the Blu-ray and the DVD copies of the film and a booklet that has stills from the film and creator's thoughts and comments. This is a movie for the enitre family and for any Ghibli fan. The mailing process was great and the film is terrific.
