I don't think you necessarily have to be a millennial to "get" this premise, as I've heard people say to me. It's just something that is clearly not for everyone. I held off on this simply because of reviews and regretted it, because it has actually become a favorite of mine, and I would have still been happy paying more than what I did for this. It's just another example of something that I should've just checked out because of interest rather than letting other people influence my opinion too much. I'd still say give this a rental first, just because of the way the movie is shot and presented can turn some people off to it. Still, I personally enjoyed it very much and don't regret the purchase at all.
Remember sometimes we get good DVDs and sometimes we get bad DVDs that come in good or bad conditions, it's not the seller's fault, sometimes it's the person who's delivering it.
So to start, this movie is almost 95% from the view of someone looking at a computer screen with Skype and Facebook open. Almost all the content happens on this screen. I can only think that this movie cost about 10 bucks to make. The acting is pathetic. The teens in this movie deserve to never act again. And you know it's bad when your son (12 years old) had watched this at a friends house and claimed that they turned it off.
My wife and I had started watching it, he came out and said, oh god, you didn't buy this did you? I said yea we did, he laughed and walked back into his room. After 10 minutes I knew we were headed for the movie selection screen soon. I fast forwarded it from the 10 minute mark and it was almost to the end before it cut away from this lame "computer screen" scene. Nothing I can say will prepare you for the sheer disaster this movie was.
If you want to punish your kids, make them watch this and take away the mobile devices / laptops and have them write a book report on it. Just having to watch it is punishment enough.

Posteriormente llegarían películas como Unfriended Dark Web, Searching… y recientemente The Host. Pero Unfriended sería la percusora en este nuevo sub genero. Vale la pena.

The entire film takes place within the confines of an online video chat between a group of friends (young good looking Americans, you know the drill). All we see is the screen that one of the characters is looking at and the various websites, videos etc that she sees before her. The plot is a bit more generic - revolving around the suicide (that was filmed obviously) of a classmate of these guys. Someone suddenly infiltrates the online chat using the profile of the dead girl. Chaos and horror ensue.
Well kind of. It's not actually particularly scary at all but the novel approach to the storytelling keeps it interesting and reasonably fun. It's all utterly ridiculous of course but at least it's a bit different and has a certain entertainment value in its own way.
