Customers are dissatisfied with the appearance of the manual food mill grinder. They mention that it looks like a kid toy and the crank is hard to use.
Arrived before the estimated delivery date. Very happy about that. Works like a charm on all kinds of nuts. (I attached it to one of my shelves) Now I can grind all my nuts perfectly and use them for my baking. Would certainly recommend this product and have done so already to my friends
I love this nut grinder. There's always one in my kitchen. Every decade or so I buy a new one because they, like carrots peelers and knives, get dull. I make lovely fresh fluffy ground nuts aka nut flour in no time at all and the cost is much much less than Bob's Red Mill products. I use ground nuts to make tortes of all sorts and I add them to bread instead of flax meal. My French macarons with fresh ground hazelnuts are fabulous.
I recently told a friend with celiac disease about this product. She bought one and loves it. No more bags of nut flour for her.
It was shipped via Royal Post from England!!!! Give it plenty of time to arrive....at least another week from the estimated date. This is the same grinder, except the color, that I purchased from Williams Sonoma (over 30 years ago when they were just the fancy cookware shop on Sutter Street in San Francisco) and used for all of my baked goods containing ground nuts......It worked fine then and I expect this one to work well, too. This design was from the days that you had wooden kitchen tables.....not fancy granite or other stone tops. I just clamp on an old wooden cutting board to my fancy counter, clamp the grinder to the cutting board and grind away at hazel nuts or almonds for my yummy and buttery cookies with nuts. Have fun with this and remember, this is an old-time tool that was not designed for modern counters.
Make sure to take it apart, wash, dry well and then oil the screw section.....it can rust, so dry it well between uses. My old one is over 30 years old...just looks well loved, not as shiny as this one!
It is small, way to small for a big job. I had similar grinder years ago and I loved it. Thinking that this one will be the same size, I purchase it. It look like a kid toy.
The "spine" of the grinder is far too short. As another reviewer mentioned, this won't attach to a counter of average thickness. My own is 1 1/4 inch thick -- too large for this gadget. Following the reviewer's suggestion, I substituted a spare plank of wood. Also, there's only about a one-inch clearance between the barrel and anchor. As a result, it's impossible to fit anything but the shallowest bowl underneath to catch the ground nuts. I ultimately used a baking sheet, but this is far from ideal. Finally, attaching the grinding drum to the crank shaft is no simple task. In all, a great concept, poorly executed.
Used it for grinding walnuts and it did a good job. The only issue was that both my table and kitchen countertop were too thick to attach the grinder to, so I had to improvise using a shelving plank instead.
I have been using a similar for years and they work well. The two I just bought are for my daughters in law..Having just ground 3 pounds, I there soon will be an electric one.
