The reprint of the book was high-quality, with reproductions of McAllister's personal stationery.

If you're unfamiliar with Ward McAllister or the history surrounding the original publication of "Society as I Have Found It", I will warn you: he was an egotistical blowhard, and when he published the book, it caused him to be ostracized by the "society" he was writing about (the Gilded Age 400). Many of the members of society are anonymized, because to name names would have been even worse, by the standards of the day, so understanding all of the shades and innuendo of the book can require some prior knowledge of the era and the key players (Caroline Schermerhorn Astor, Mamie Fish, Harry & Elizabeth Lehr, Alva Vanderbilt, etc...). For the student of Gilded Age society, however, it's an entertaining - if somewhat eyerolling - read that gives greater insight into Ward McAllister's personality and just WHY he was cast out of the "society" he had found.

Good book. However, print is pretty small.

If you are interested in the Gilded Age this is an interesting snapshot of high society from one person’s perspective.

I would love to read this, however the font is about 8 pts. You will need a magnifying lense to read it! For some reason the book itself is large but the actual printed words take up maybe a 3×5 index card of words on each page with gigantic blank white space surrounding the miniscule font on all sides. Why?!

This book is more of a journal than a book on society. The author is a bit of a narcissist, bragging about his wealth, and moving around Europe on vacations and 'stuff'.
