Enso model is sleek and works perfectly but is spendy and a fingerprint magnet
This review is of the SodaStream Enso bundle.SodaStream has numerous models at various price points. This new bundle is one of their more expensive models, but it does exactly the same thing as their least expensive model. The premium pricing is apparently for the aesthetic of a mirror finished piece that would look at home at an industrial exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.The Enso is showy, but underneath the mirror finish exterior metal veneer is a mostly plastic body. The included carbonation bottle has a matching mirrored metal base.Functionally, the Enso is engineered well and is exceedingly easy to set up and operate. No power is needed. Just open the back, insert the Quick Connect style (not the older threaded) SodaStream CO2 canister, flip down the lever and it is ready to go. Carbonating a bottle is also easy. Just fill it with water, insert and push it back into position, and press the top button for up to five one second pulses. SodaStream says 3 one-second pulses will give you a mild fizz and five will give you a strong fizz. I personally don't like my drinks too fizzy, and I was happy with two pulses. You can then add flavoring to the bottle if you desire or pour the carbonated water into a glass and add your recipe to concoct whatever fizzy beverage you can imagine. I would not recommend adding ingredients before carbonation as that will contaminate the Enso's carbonating probe and require cleaning it before the next use. Stick with pure water when going through the carbonation step. The bundle comes with one CO2 canister, one carbonation bottle, and the Enso device. It also comes with a cleaning cloth which you will need as the Enso's mirror finish collects fingerprints like crazy. (Soap and water don't clean the fingerprints off, but a QUAT based cleaner like 409 works well). It also comes with a time sensitive QR code to get one free carbonation bottle, but the offer is only valid in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. 😠Replacement CO2 canisters are a bit spendy at about $65 for two, but SodaStream has an online program where you can exchange a minimum of two empty canisters and get two filled canisters for about $34 plus another ~$8 shipping (depending on location). You will also have to ship your empties back to SodaStream. Various retailers also have refill programs where you can get an approximately $15 gift card when you exchange two empty canisters for two full ones (at the usual price of approximately $65). One canister is claimed to carbonate up to 60 liters, depending on how carbonated you like your water. That works out to just over 50 cents a liter, a good discount over Club Soda from the grocery store. The Enso works perfectly and if you like its sleek appearance, it may be worth the more than 100% price premium over SodaStream's least expensive model, the under $100 Terra.

The media could not be loaded.
I only drink sparkling water, and have a few machines that I use between home and work. My first machine was a SodaStream One Touch -- nice and convenient unit, but not as visually appealing. For my second unit that I use at work, I actually went with a different brand simply for visual appeal. SodaStream has always been more for function than visual appeal, but the Enso finally changes that for me.

Appearance and Size
The Enso is still mostly plastic when it comes to components, but it has a stainless steel outer layer which lends to its improved appearance. The unit also comes with a cloth which is recommend for any cleaning, which is helpful as the mirrored finish does show fingerprints pretty easily. It really does look nice and is a huge upgrade in appearance to my other SodaStream unit. As for size, the Enso is a little slimmer at about 3.5 inches wide on the body and 4.5 inches on the base. Height of 16.5 inches. Overall, while height is the same, the Enso width is about 3/4 inches thinner than my other unit, so takes up a tad less space on the countertop.

Function
The Enso does not require power, as you simply push a manual button to carbonate. This does give you the convenience to put anywhere you want, regardless of whether you have a power source. No having to deal with cords or plugs, and makes the unit easily portable. For carbonation, I typically do three pushes of the button which leads to a healthy level of carbonation -- probably equivalent to "level two" on the electronic OneTouch version. I personally do not mind this, but if you do like the convenience of an electric system that does the work for you, the Enso will not be a good fit for you.

What's Included
The unit does come in a nice box that would lend to gifting, and the unit itself is wrapped in a mesh bag which could be reused if you ever have to store it or pack it for a move. The unit comes with a plastic 1L dishwasher safe bottle, a full CO2 quick connect cylinder, and a cleaning cloth. I would have liked a glass bottle, but that's not an option with the Enso (nor any SodaStream that I am aware of).

Refills
Personally I do my CO2 exchanges through SodaStream directly via the mail, as I live in remote area and it's just easier for me. My other CO2 cartridges are the screw on ones, not the quick connect, so by getting this unit I'll have to invest in a few new quick connect cartridges for the exchange program.

Overall, would recommend the Enso to any carbonated water fan that wants a unit that blends both beauty and function. Glad I got this unit and look forward to the visual upgrade it provides my kitchen.

The greatest thing this has going for it is the design aesthetic. The all-chrome look is sleek and brings the SodaStream from a hidden away appliance to something you are proud to leave out. Using this is not overly different than any SodaStream. The main difference is the quick-release canister style. I am uncertain if this will be an issue when needing replacement but it is worth noting. I have also not attempted to use one of the many other canisters that I have sitting in reserve for my older model. All of that being said, what I like about this compared to my other model. It's easier to load, easier to use, charges faster and without that annoying loud buzz noise. The bottle is exactly the same as my other 1L bottles so for that I see nothing special about this bottle with a metal cap and footer. Overall, it's a great-looking piece that may or may not be problematic in the future when it comes time to switch out the tank. The SodaStream Enso is by far the most elegant design to date and although a touch on the expensive side, there is very little to maintain or service here. This will last for many years as my other SodaStream model has.
