I liked this movie because of how it depicts journalism as the main characters attempt to capture the major events of an internal conflict. I also have interest in photography and there are moments in the film where the characters are in intense gun fights and are trying to capture images in action.

When you go into watching a movie, you should try to watch as little previews as possible so you have an absolute open mind to what you were about to process when watching a movie. With that said, I usually can tell within the first 30 seconds to minute if I’m going to purchase a 4K movie, then I try my best to duck and dodge the previews and go mute when they come on.
I’m not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, but the only thing I can think of is that the negative responses are due to it not being an all out war like the Purge. I honestly think it showed a unique view of a press camera photographer. Now, there was an actress that was extremely annoying to me, but other than that, I thought it was a pretty darn good movie, especially when you appreciate the immaculate graphics with 4K HDR Dolby vision.
I would have given a 4.5 rating if I could, but I rounded up since the reviews are so bad and they shouldn’t be in my opinion.

At 82, with a love of cinema from Silent Screen to present, and obviously aware of out current chaotic State of the Union, I thought might be worth a look. . . . but I was dead wrong. Hard to believe something this bad could have Kirsten Dunst involved. A 15 year old girl comes out of nowhere to become a major player within an SUV driven over acting mishmash Press Corp having a goal to reach Washington DC, encountering a never ending cadre of bad guys, very bad guys, and I assume American soldiers of the "opposing" Army.

The plot apparently becomes an Army of the good guys fighting their way to the White House to destroy what is left of the corrupt Government. . . . which it appears they are going to accomplish by killing not just the opposing military but every living civilian in site. Something this bad would make an old Ed Wood movie look good.

Much to my surprise, I was finally able to buy a 4K version of the movie. I thought the movie was a good depiction of what a divided country can become. Some scenes don't fit people's narratives of what can happen and that is good. ANYTHING can unfold and these journalists learned that quickly. I thought the acting, directing and filming were outstanding. The confusion I had was what actually happened to start all this hard-core violence. Do some research and you'll find out what is guessed by "experts". The ending firefight at the capitol was brilliantly done and engrossing - at least for me - a 71 year old who is fond of action films. Twists and turns abound, this movie is 5 star for me.

I loved the movie in the theater. Was quite disappointed to see the 16x9 1.85:1 aspect ratio on the video disc. Journalism photography was a big part of the movie, trying to capture the truest nature of current events in a totally messed up world. The movie cinematography was compromised by the choice of aspect ratio, cutting off much of either side of the scene. I expected better, especially for a 4K disc. 2.4:1 should have been implemented. or more.

If you're expecting Call of Duty the movie, you probably won't like this film. It does require you to have patience to enjoy the film. I believe the payoff is worth it.

Solid director from films such as 28 days later, Annihilation and Ex Machina comes a thought provoking and beautifully shot film. I do agree that the music choices are weird but that didn't stop me from enjoying the film. I also enjoyed that the film didn't choose a specific political side and left some story elements ambiguous and left it up to the viewer on how certain things took place. I do hope to see more films from this universe!

I was rather looking forward to watching this movie. I bought the 4K UHD and just watched it last night. The film production was good, the acting was good, but, the story was just super lame and not the least believable. Texas is the only state that has the option to secede from the union and the idea has been publicly floated in the past. There were never enough votes to actually do it.

But, california is a demokrat controlled state with what amounts to essentially a one party state. The TX governor has been at odds with california governor Newsome for the last 4 years because of the incredibly bad way that california politicians have run that state into the ground what with their BS demokrat funded programs like the train subway system that goes nowhere and their mismanaged forest system that created huge forest fire hazards, their sanctuary state, and many other issues. While Texas has started doing the federal govt's job of securing the border.

The point is that Texas would never team up with california. That's not happening. And, if the president were to become out of control - like the current one has because of his dementia - then california would remain in solidarity with him.

I would have much preferred that this movie started from the beginning, not cheapened out by starting after the war started. Nor do I like centering the movie on journalists and their personal issues simmering from burn out and for others, inexperience. Plus, journalists do hire mercenaries in war torn areas to escort and protect them in dangerous areas. It would have made a lot more sense for them to travel into these areas with an escort which they did not. Even though they were represented as experienced and famous journalists, so they would have known better. Also, I wasn't buying into the idea that US dollars were highly devalued and that Canadian dollars retained their value over US dollars. This is one of the reasons it would have been better if they started the move at the beginning not near the end of the war. So we could see the decline and the loss of value of things like money and life. Great opportunities wasted by doing it that way.

I was very disappointed with the story of this movie. This could have been a great movie. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

3.0 out of 5 stars Digital code not from Canadian release and doesn't really work
Reviewed in Canada on July 20, 2024
I liked the movie when I saw it in theatres, and the actual design of the cover is my preferred design, but I'm annoyed that the digital code included doesn't work in Canada. I even tried using a VPN to redeem it, and while that worked, the only option available was Fandango, which causes error messages for me anytime I log in.
