Great book, but inadequate quality

Great book, but inadequate quality
The content itself is great, the ideas it contain are explained clearly, Lenin would be a great novelist or/and critic if he didn't come up this idea and orchestrate a revolution. However, the quality of the book itself is questionable. When the book came at my doorstep and I flicked through a few pages, some pages fell off, thus, I have to stapled my book to avoid any more fall-offs. (I am not certain if it's just this specific book I received, or the whole production line, but from the fact that most people rated the book 5 stars, I guess it's just mine)

What can I say? It's written by possibly one of the most well known communist revolutionaries in history. Fairly easy to read and gives some great points. A must have for any new or seasoned Marxist

If you need to know , want to know what lenin was about its a good book
Its well worht the money for the above
Lenin is however pretty well totally nuts and thats not a political view I think jeremy corbin is a wonderful man. Lenin goes on about opinions ideas and history as does the comunist manafesto but there is very very little actuall content other than we hate everything except the working class that should smash everythnig and dictate everythnig from a working class dictatorship.
Its so simplistic its child like . Full of long complex sentences hiding the fact it says nothing. Trying to sound interlectul when its just adjective
Smash the system , remove all personal weath replace it with state ownership , run it from a workers cooperatve , let the state fade away as its not needed , workers must contol the means of production etc
This they could say making statements that at least mean someting.
They Leinin Marx engles all go on
the protalitariate are salves to the petty this or that and the state is in control of them and we need to do the right thing and take away the power of the producers and control the state to get rid of the state becasue we dont need the state to control because they are only the state to contol the working class in the class stuggle of the masses to overthrough the state . And they do that sort of thing in ONE sentenace over and over again saying this person or that person sees it slightly differntly but its all the same
Ps and its doomed to failure becasue they were all daft as a brush never went into factories ( I worked in loads most of my life). They had no consept of human nature at all.
So a must read but only if you need or want to know exactly what and who leinin was and how he throught
Not a good idea for a good read or story or anything much else

As a piece of history it is informative, if you want to know more about Lenin then this is a good starting point. If you want to look good on the tube then the cover will do that for you too. If, however, your aim is to think about what you are reading and how it may still be relevant, or not, then this book is an excellent buy.

Great quality book, no errors in printing or the text itself. A very good read for anyone interested in Marxism or who wants a taste of Lenin's analyses of historical events and other author's takes on Socialism.

The book itself a well printed and of decent quality. The content can be hard to follow at times if you don’t understand some of the terminology used but on the whole it gives a great insight into the mind of Lenin. It certainly shows his utter contempt of State, Class and Capitalism and how through revolution it must be smashed. Also clear is his love of the writings of Marx and Engels - and how, in his mind, their work was completely misinterpreted by the opportunists of the day. Worth a read if you are at all interested in political history.

There are no shortage of reviews for this classic, for good reason. For all their influence and relevance, both Marx, but not so much Engels, did not leave behind a coherent doctrine, with elements of their philosophy scattered among many writings. The function of State and Revolution is to connect the dots and give a coherent, clear message of Marxian theory. It remains one of the clearest explanations of the Communist system.

I was struck when reading State and Revolution how much resonates with today. Even though first published over a hundred years ago (1917), State and Revolution contains cutting analysis which holds up even one hundred years after it was first published. In this regard, pay attention to what Lenin says about how States are created and continue to exist. Or witness what Lenin says about how the memory and thoughts of great revolutionary thinkers are reduced to sound bytes, ignoring other important messages, or, to use Lenin’s words, being “canonized.” For example, for all the great words and deeds from Martin Luther King, the media mostly remember him for saying, “I have a dream, ....” leaving out the many other words and deeds he said.

A frequent argument against Communist political systems is that historically most have been nothing but authoritarian dictatorships. State and Revolution clarifies this argument. Russia, Eastern Europe were mired in dictatorship, never progressing further, per Marxian theory, to a democratic, communistic state. The great benefit of State and Revolution is that Lenin fully explains this important issue, devoting an entire chapter to the “withering of the State.”

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the reasons communism doesn't work.
Reviewed in the United States on 29 November 2023
Lenin basically regurgitates Marx's idealistic tripe, while adding to it to ensure the complete ruin of his beloved Russia for the sake of communism. A serious minded reader with any knowledge of the benefits of capitalism, and individual freedoms will instantly reject these ideas for the nonsense they are. Without capitalism, communism can not exist, as it works on the back of capitalism in order to fund itself. These ideas are all contradicted in the very writings of Marx , and Lenin because as they apply a principle of communism, they must then alter their principles to make the new idea work within the communist ideal, which of course as usual contradicts the new idea. It's amazing double talk. Keep in mind, Lenin was stripped of power and became THE figurehead of communism, while at the same time he was being shut down, and silenced, as the new ideas again conflicted with the communist "model" for utopian life. Enter Stalin and the worst oppression of Russia ever, in the name of communism.
