The dvd is region locked and it didn’t say that in the description when I bought it. I am a fan of the Blacula movies, and I was really excited for this, but I was really disappointed about the region lock. Plus it’s too late for me to return it. If you want this movie on DVD, your best bet is buying a copy on Ebay.

Blacula. What more can one say? The epitome of 70's blaxpoloitation horror cinema. William Marshall is/was an awesome, classically-trained actor; just the type required to create such a character. Like Christopher Lee in Hammer's Dracula series and Jonathan Frid as Dark Shadows' Barnabas.

リージョンAのブルーレイですので、我が国のレコーダーでも鑑賞可能。但し、日本語字幕はありません。ゆえに英語に堪能な方でないと鑑賞するのはかなりシンドイでしょう。
勿論、私は堪能だから問題なしと言いたいところですが、TOEIC500点台ですから、シンドイです。しかし本作に限って言えば字幕なしでも充分鑑賞に堪えられます。それぐらいストーリーは単純ですから。
特典映像としてパート1ではDavid F. Walkerなる人物のオーディオ・コメンタリー、パート2ではリチャード・ローソンのインタビュー（このインタビューはオモロイ、字幕なしなので結構キツイが）、
パート1、2共劇場用予告編やフォト・ギャラリー（フォトの量が多い！）を収録。またジャケットがリバーシブルとなっており、裏面はマニアには嬉しい公開時のポスターがずらり。
但し、私は3,229円で新品を入手出来ラッキーでしたが、福沢諭吉1枚の価値が有るかとなれば甚だ疑問です。

「黒いジャガー」の大ヒットから始まったブラックスプロイテーション・シネマが大流行していた時であり、素晴らしい作品もあればZ級の作品もありと正に玉石混淆の様相を呈していた。
で、本シリーズはと言うと、そりゃシリーズ化されたぐらいだから、悪かろう訳がないと言いたいところだが、お世辞にも素晴らしいとは言い難い。しかし一部で囁かれているような？最低映画だとも言えない。
私はブラックスプロイテーション・シネマが大流行した頃はまだ小学生だった事もありリアルタイムで観た作品は全くないので、偉そうな事は言えないが、この種の作品の良さは好きな方しか解らんでしょう。
脚本も演出もかなり荒っぽい上にご都合主義丸出しですので、アラを探せばいくらでも見つかります（例えば、マントを身に着けた主人公が好奇な目で見られることもなく夜な夜な歩き回っている。
死んで横たわっている警察官が一瞬腕を動かしているなどなど）。
製作された時代も時代なのでストーリー展開もトロイです。ハマーの「吸血鬼ドラキュラ」辺りと比べると月とスッポンのよう差があります。
でも私を含めこの種の作品が好きな人には溜まらんでしょうな。出演者の殆どがアフロヘアーと言ったように、全編に漂う濃厚な黒い雰囲気が胸をワクワクさせますね。

バックで流れる音楽も黒光りです。担当しているのがソウル界では夙に有名なアレンジャー、ジーン・ペイジ。タイトルロールで流れるテーマ・ミュージックはファンキー！
パート1では劇中、女性1人男性2人のコーラス・グループがライヴ形式で歌っておりますが、この人たちはヒューズ・コーポレーションと言う正真正銘のプロ。
"There He Is Again"、"What The World Knows"、"I'm Gonna Catch You"の3曲を披露しています。
パート2の音楽は若干ポップ。担当したのはBill Marxと言うこれまたアメリカではそこそこ有名なアレンジャー兼ピアニスト。エンドロールで流れるミディアム・ナンバー"Torment"（歌手は不明）は中々の聴き物。

パート1では当時黒人女優中ナンバー1の美貌と言われたヴォネッタ・マギーが、パート2ではあの超巨乳の持ち主パム・グリア姐さん（メイクはちょっと垢ぬけてないが）がそれぞれ共演。
ヴォネッタ嬢はブラキュラの毒牙の餌食となりますが、パム嬢はやはり強い！ブードゥー教の祈祷師と言う役柄もあり、ブラキュラ如きの敵ではありませんでした。ホンマかいな？！

I saw this film in my hometown theater when it was first released in 1972. Recently I purchased the DVD to view with youngsters in my family as a Halloween treat. Their response? It was an instant hit! Both William Marshall and Vonetta McGee are great in their roles. William Marshall's rich baritone speaking voice and persona brings character to his role as Blacula the so-called "Brother from another Mother." Having been an opera singer Marshall's deep voice and his experience as an accomplished Shakespearean actor, brings swagger to this film. It is sad that Mr. Marshall is only known for his roles in "Blacula" and "Scream Blacula Scream." But it is more heartbreaking that he and so many African American actors/actresses at that time, were unable to get more work to showcase their multifaceted talent in better acting roles. However, These two(Horror movies and/or Blaxploitation films) are campy and fun. The lovely Vonetta McGee who was better known for her beauty than her acting does a great job. She is also known for her starring roles in not only Blacula, but also other 1970's films such as Hammer, Melinda, Shaft in Africa and 1974's "Thomasine and Bushrod" with her then boyfriend, Max Julien (directed by Gordon Parks). Amazon's double feature offer of SOUL CINEMA, features both "Blacula" and "Scream Blacula Scream" and is a great buy. I highly recommended both films that can be viewed by the whole family and friends of all ages.

Dieses kultige, ja fast unglaubliche Blaxploitation Werk gibt es meines Wissens nicht mit deutscher Synchronisation zu kaufen. Obwohl die Filme seinerzeit hier im Kino liefen. Hier kann man nun die beiden Teile (mehr gab es nicht) zum günstigen Preis im Doppelpack erwerben. Allerdings nur im O-Ton, also in englisch. Der große Minuspunkt: Es gibt keine Untertitel! Diese hätten, beim Mitlesen, das Verständnis etwas erleichtert, denn nicht alle Darsteller sprechen klar und deutlich. Die Filme selbst sind merkwürdig. Sie schwanken zwischen Ironie und ernst gemeintem Gruselfilm, dabei bieten sie extrem viel unfreiwillige Komik. Teil 1 plätschert so vor sich hin, und man mag kaum begreifen, dass sich eine gewisse Fangemeinde entwickelt hat. Kurz gesagt: Der Film ist größtenteils langweilig. Nur der Hauptdarsteller verfügt über genug Charisma, alle anderen tragen etwas zur Belustigung bei. Der 2. Teil, "Scream Blacula Scream" ist deutlich unterhaltsamer und hat somit den Seltenheitswert einer Fortsetzung, die wesentlich besser als das Original ist. Allerdings enttäuscht das Ende. Fazit: Nicht gerade bahnbrechende Filme um einen afroamerikanischen Vampir, die vor allem wegen des 70er Jahre Zeitgeistes und Kinohistorisch interessant sind. In seiner DVD Sammlung braucht man die Scheiben nicht. Die technische Umsetzung ist etwas mager und die fehlenden Untertitel sind sehr schade. Schwankt zwischen 2 und 3 Sternen. - Für Filmfans!

Blacula is the best movie that I have ever seen in my life, and it is the best dracula movie ever made in history. Part 2 of Blacula is called Scream Blacula Scream, and Blacula returns with even more terror and the movie leaves off from the first Blacula movie and you also get to see more exciting things that Blacula does, and both of these movies show you that Blacula is the best vampire of all time.
