The Hateful Eight (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy)

New-The Hateful Eight [Blu-ray] 'The Hateful 8' is set 6 or 8 or 12 years after the Civial War in wintery Wyoming, and a blizzard is coming. Bounty Hunter John Ruth is trying to get his bounty, Ms. Daisy Domergue (Dah-mer-goo), to the town of Red Rock where she's scheduled to be brought to justice. Along the way he and his wagon driver Olie pick up two strangers; another bounty hunter and former union soldier, Major Marquis Warren, and a former union soldier, Major Marquis Warren, and a former southern renegade who clalims to be the new mayor of Red Rock, Chris Mannix. The impending storm has forced them to stop at Minnie's Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie's, they are not greeted by the proprietor but by four strangers. As the storm takes over the mountainside cabin our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all.

Good quality, no issues with the discs but the case doesn't close/click shut. We just switched it with an empty case we happened to have handy.

My favourite Tarantino movie. "The Hateful Eight" takes place during a blizzard in a haberdashery (a 19th century department/hardware store) in an isolated region of the west some short time after the end of the U. S. Civil War. The cast is fantastic (although, to be honest, I'm getting a bit tired of seeing the face and hearing the voice of Samuel L. Jackson). The acting is brilliant. The plot is as thick as the stew they serve and as captivating as a strip-show for a recent convict of some 25 years eloped from an all men's Turkish prison. This story is everything that Shakespeare wanted to write when he created such classics as "Hamlet," "MacBeth" and "Othello" but was ultimately unable to write. Tarantino is everything that Shakespeare wanted to be but lacked the skill.

I think this is one of Tarantino's best films. It's really a kind of parlour mystery and reminded me, in the end, despite the inevitable blood-letting (that can't possibly be a spoiler) of Agatha Christie's tales of murder! the ploy is fairly simply, but cunningly told, if in a mannered 'Tarantino' way.
The performances were very good indeed, Samuel L. Jackson was once again very strong, and Jennifer Jason Leigh really stole the show with a really gritty, intense and sometimes heart-stopping performance. I thought 'Oscar' after watching her work in this film. Doubtful, but it would be deserved.
I don't know if Quentin himself shot the landscapes and atmospheric shots, but hats off to (likely) the 2nd unit director for giving us some very lovely photographs. the colour, by the way was excellent, and I thought the lighting and sound were flawless.

I certainly hope Tarantino keeps making films - despot my doubts about him as a person, I do enjoy his films, despite the violent language and images. There is something compelling about his films and it would be remiss not to compliment him on his directorial technique, which is simply excellent (again, if rather mannered).

Sitting on the fence? Jump! This one is a winner, and well worth more than one screening.

Director, Quentin Tarantino crafts another work of art in its own right. A blisteringly entertaining and heart-pounding edge of your seat suspense-thriller. An tense, gripping and bloody ride packed with stars, style and crisp and compelling dialogue. Everything from the atmosphere, backdrop to the score and the tension make this film more than perfect. It has nothing but absolutely brilliant performances all around from it's amazing cast; it's hard to choose which is the best one. Samuel L. Jackson has never been better, he gives one of his best performances ever. Kurt Russell is magnificent. Walton Goggins is tremendous. Jennifer Jason Leigh is terrific. A brutally furious and riveting whodunit.

Cannot overemphasize, this film has a constant barrage of racist language. Repeated punch in the face violence against woman is shocking every time, plenty of cowboy brutality towards anything alive. It was filmed in winter time Telluride, CO. Good cinematography. Classic Tarantino. Be careful who you watch it with, a lot of people wanted to shut this DVD off and watch ANYTHING ELSE on TV... including smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.

This movie edition has turned out to be Region A locked (North America) so my european Panasonic bluray player cannot read the disc. Further more movie's box has been damaged during shipping due to inappropriate packaging (standard amazon's cardboard envelope).
