Product description
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Academy Award® -winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...
---------------

Generally, "Django Unchained" is a good story, but it's full of violence, nudity and fowl language.
The plot occurs just prior to the US Civil War and the backdrop is the American Slave Trade. So, immense cruelty is depicted throughout the show and, for me, this was tough to take.
I also didn't like the ""N" Word". Yet, it was casually-mentioned about 1,000 or more times. So, this, too, was tough, for me.
For those reasons, the nearly 3 hour-long film, for me, seemed a bit long.
Yet, I had to repeatedly remind myself that the story was about a different culture and, accordingly, I got the impression that Quentin Tarantino, who wrote and directed the movie, had based it on substantial research. So, I think the story probably came close to the truth about the mistreatment of Blacks, during that period.
In the film, Leonardo DiCaprio's obnoxious White character asked an interesting question. Referring to the Black slaves, he queried: "Why don't they kill us?"
"Probably for the same reason why many Jews passively went to their deaths, in Nazi Germany", I thought; their situation was so bad, they just could not believe it.
Others likely suffered from Stockholm Syndrome or learned to survive, etc.
No doubt, however, some Blacks did kill or tried to kill Whites.
The gore might have been exaggerated. Some curse words could have been too modern, but all the actors did great acting and the costumes, sets, etc. seemed authentic.
So, "Django Unchained" was a good, but 'tough-to-take' movie.
Incidentally, I'm White, too.
Highly recommended.
I must have for movie buffs.
