What is a Laryngologist?

A Laryngologist is a physician, surgeon, and specialist that treats illnesses and injuries of the larynx, pharynx, and surrounding structures of the neck. The larynx plays a key role in normal breathing, swallowing, and voice production. Diseases of the larynx and surrounding structures, therefore, lead to voice, swallowing, and breathing problems. Laryngologists specialize in the treatment of these conditions. Laryngology is a branch of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders.
