Large parts of Queensland blanketed by fog, causing visibility issues and flight diversions
By Jay BowmanLarge parts of Queensland have woken to thick fog blanketing the state, causing visibility issues and some flight diversions.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the dreary weather spanned from the Gold Coast all the way to Mackay, and was particularly extensive across the south-east.
"Thick fog is blanketing the city and most suburbs this morning, with a road weather alert current," the Bureau of Meteorology said on Wednesday morning.
"Take care on the roads with reduced visibility."
Senior forecaster Pieter Claassen said the conditions stretched "right across the Brisbane region".
"Across Ipswich, almost all the way to Toowoomba," he said.
"It becomes more patchy as you get towards Gatton, but then Toowoomba [is] also in fog."
Mr Claassen said the fog was taking longer than usual to clear around Brisbane due to being in the "heart of winter".
"So that sunshine [is] not quite having as much potency," he added.
Visibility at the airport was down to 450 metres early this morning, with some flights temporarily unable to land.
Peter Doherty from the Brisbane Airport Corporation said three flights were diverted to the Gold Coast. He said all services were now back on track.
