Virgin Hotels announced the debut of the Virgin Hotels Glasgow in Clydeside earlier this week.
The new property, which is situated on the banks of the River Clyde, is the luxury lifestyle hotel brand’s second destination in Europe (Virgin Hotels Edinburgh launched in June 2022) and eighth outpost overall.
Teddy Mayer, creative director and vice president of design at Virgin Hotels, partnered with Silk Property Group and Twenty First Architects to envision a property that pairs Virgin’s signature ethos and hospitality standards with details that reflect the character of the Scottish city. The interior design, for instance, pays homage to Glasgow’s rich legacy as a prominent port city via nautical elements imbued with a modern twist.
Public spaces display a warm, convivial ambiance thanks to open floor plans, velvet chairs, and expansive views of the city. Curated in collaboration with Visto Art, custom artwork by Scottish illustrators, painters, and photographers also enhances the experience.
Each of Virgin Hotels Glasgow’s 240 Chambers and Grand Chamber Suites are flooded with natural light and include thoughtful features that optimize the space like wood-sliding doors that partition the bedroom from the dressing area in every room.
Two dining options—Commons Club and Highyard—are now open onsite, while additional F&B outlets, like the Funny Library Coffee Shop and the Rocks on Fox Street whisky bar, will debut in the coming months.
“Glasgow holds a special place in my heart, as one of the first record shops we opened was on Union Street and my wife was born and brought up here,” says Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson. “With Virgin Hotels Glasgow, we aimed to capture Glasgow’s unique spirit, offering visitors and locals an unparalleled experience. The hotel’s design truly reflects this as well as the city’s rich history and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the hotel to enjoy all that we have to offer. Well done to the team for creating magic, yet again.”
