ABC'S George Stephanopoulos dished a damning verdict on President Joe Biden's ability to handle another 4-year term when stopped in the street on Tuesday.

Stephanopoulos, who interviewed the president for 22 minutes last week, was stopped by a passerby while walking through New York City.

Armed with a camera, the curious member of the public asked Stephanopoulos whether he believed Biden was fit to run.

"Do you think Biden should step down?" they asked on video, first obtained by TMZ.

"You've talked to him more than anybody else has lately."

Stephanopoulos, a former White House Communications Director, could be heard pausing briefly before giving his verdict.

“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” he said.

The news buff was quick to make his exit as the passerby continued to ask, “You don’t think he can serve four more years?”

“All right, that’s an answer," they added.

Stephanopoulos has since admitted he regretted the off the cuff remark, noting he "shouldn't have" made it.

“Earlier today I responded to a question from a passerby. I shouldn’t have,” he told Puck News.

Meanwhile, ABC News denied their involvement.

“George expressed his own point of view and not the position of ABC News," the outlet told TMZ.

Stephanopoulos sat down with Biden for a 22-minute interview last week, during which the ABC anchor probed the president on his disastrous debate with Donald Trump and his ability to commit to another four-year term.

It came after Biden, 81, admitted he "nearly fell asleep on stage" when he and Trump went head-to-head, and reportedly told Democrats he needed to fix his schedule to ensure he would only carry out events before 8pm.

"Concerns about your age and your health are growing," Stephanopoulos said during their interview.

"So that's why I'm asking -- to reassure them, would you be willing to have the independent medical evaluation."

Biden did not give a direct response but insisted he undergoes medical evaluations frequently.

His physician has since confirmed the remarks, releasing a letter to detail the president's recent medical exams after White House press secretary Jean-Pierre was met with a barrage of questions around his health on Monday.

Biden's post-debate gaffes

President Joe Biden's gaffes have increased at an alarming rate over the past few years.

  • Biden alarmingly described himself as a "Black woman" during a radio interview with Philadelphia station WURD on Thursday.
  • "I'm proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, first black woman… to serve with a black president," Biden said, appearing to confuse himself with Vice President Kamala Harris.
  • Biden previously served as VP to President Barack Obama, the US' first black president, which is likely the source of his confusion.
  • The president also attempted to go off-script and insult rival, Donald Trump, while addressing military families during the White House's Fourth of July barbecue.
  • While Biden came in strong, he fumbled his word and came crashing down.
  • "By the way, you know I was at that World War I cemetery in France and a - the one that one of our colleagues, a former president, didn't want to go and be up there," Biden said in an apparent dig at former president Donald Trump.
  • "I probably shouldn't even say that. Anyway," he continued as his voice dimmed.
  • After shocking the audience, he quickly went back on script and tried to get the energy back up.

During his interview with Biden, Stephanopoulos asked what his doctor said about his poor debate performance against Trump - after the president stumbled through his sentences and appeared to freeze multiple times on stage.

"He said he-- just looked at me and said, 'You're exhausted,'" Biden recalled.

"That's it. I have medical doctors travel with me everywhere. Every President does, as you know.

"Medical doctors, some of the best in the world travel with me everywhere I go. I have an ongoing assessment of what I'm doin', and they don't hesitate to tell me if they think there's something wrong."

If the Lord Almighty said 'Joe, get out of the race,' I'd get out of the race but the Lord Almighty is not coming down.

President Joe Biden

The president has since been met with mass calls to step down, but continues to bat them down, insisting during his chat with Stephanopoulos that no one is more fit to run for president than him.

He went so far as to add that only the "Lord almighty" himself could get him to call off his campaign.

''If the Lord Almighty said 'Joe, get out of the race,' I'd get out of the race but the Lord Almighty is not coming down," Biden said.

His comments came after he admitted during a Virginia fundraiser last week, “I wasn’t very smart.

"I decided to travel around the world a couple of times … shortly before the debate.
