Discusses emotional contagion, a process in which a person or group influences the
behavior of another person or group through the conscious or unconscious induction of
emotional states and behavioral attitudes. Examples of emotional contagion can be found in
cases of witchcraft and in everyday life. The history of the concept is reviewed, and a case
example involving therapy with a borderline patient is presented. A theory of emotional
contagion is also discussed.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
