The incidence of obesity in the modern society has reached epidemic proportions and
constitutes a great public health concern. Epidemiological, retrospective and genetic studies
have linked estrogens to obesity and body mass distribution. This review aims to provide a
general overview regarding the role of the estrogen receptors for the development of obesity
at the molecular level.
