Katie Couric is leaving Yahoo following its $4.5 billion merger with Verizon.
The former “Today” host has been the site’s “global news anchor” since 2013.
Sources tell us her original agreement — for which she was paid a reported $10 million annually — ended in early spring, and “the two sides agreed on a few months extension.”
A source added that there were “discussions to extend to the end of the year, but Couric declined the offer while agreeing to continue to collaborate with Tim Armstrong,” CEO of Verizon’s AOL-Yahoo mashup, called Oath.
“She wants to focus on creating content,” the source said.
Busy Couric has a Netflix show in development based on the ProPublica article “An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” plus six one-hour specials with National Geographic, and she’ll also continue a Web series with hubby John Molner called “Full Plate.”
“I’m very proud of my time at Yahoo,” Couric told us, “anchoring live events, political coverage, and breaking news with a team of very talented journalists . . . I learned some valuable lessons during my tenure, which I will take with me.”
