Ariana Grande has sent a heartwarming message to Manchester after she was made an honorary citizen after the terror attack on the city.
The head of Manchester City Council has proposed a special honor for the singer for putting together a charity concert to raise money for the victims of the suicide bombing in May.
Twenty two people, including seven children, died when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a device as concert-goers began leaving a show by the US singer at Manchester Arena on May 22.
Ariana later put together a huge gig at the city’s Old Trafford stadium to raise funds for the families and council leader Sir Richard Leese has now asked for the star to be given special recognition.
The singer heard about the honour, which will be decided at a meeting next week, and she took to social media to express her thanks.
In a post on Instagram, she shared the council leader’s statement and wrote: “I don’t know what to say.
“Words don’t suffice. I’m moved and honored. My heart is very much still there. I love you. Thank you. 🐝.”
Councillors are expected to meet on Wednesday to agree to award the distinction after the pop singer’s involvement in the hastily put-together show.
Manchester City Council is looking to recognise those who have made contributions to the city.
The meeting agenda states: “This council recognises that the loss of so many innocent lives cruelly murdered on the night of May 22 at Manchester is something that will always stay in our hearts and minds.
“We recognise too the magnificent response to this tragedy from people already at the scene, from first responders, from the vast range of public service workers, and from many ordinary members of the public.
“We further recognise the exceptional way in which Manchester people from all parts and from all communities that make up this great city, came together in sympathy, in defiance and in unity.”
