Mumford and Sons boycotting Swedish music festival after reports of rape

Mumford and Sons vowed to boycott a Swedish music festival after a rash of reported rapes and sexual assaults there, the British folk rockers said Tuesday.

The London-based group vowed it won’t return to the annual Bravalla Festival until organizers can increase security.

At least 32 rapes and sexual assaults were reported at two music festivals over the weekend – at Bravalla in the city of Norrkoping and at another music event in the city of Karlstad, police said.

“We’re appalled to hear what happened at the Bravalla Festival last weekend,” the group said on its Facebook page. “Festivals are a celebration of music and people, a place to let go and feel safe doing so. We’re gutted by these hideous reports.”

These attacks came at a “disgustingly high rate,” the group said.

“We won’t play at this festival again until we’ve had assurances from the police and organisers that they’re doing something to combat what appears to be a disgustingly high rate of reported sexual violence,” according to Mumford and Sons.
