Michael Weatherly leaving ‘NCIS’ following DUI arrest

Big changes are in store for the CBS hit drama “NCIS.”

Longtime cast member Michael Weatherly has announced that he’s leaving the show, news that comes roughly two months after the actor’s DUI arrest.

Weatherly, who’s played Special Agent Tony DiNozzo for 13 years, will remain on the series until the end of the current season.

“DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons,” Weatherly wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “I will miss the amazing crew & cast, who are like family to me, & to the fans all over the world — THANK YOU, it’s been a fantastic ride!”

The last few months haven’t been easy for the 47-year-old television veteran.

Weatherly was charged with two counts of DUI in November, reports TMZ. He was pulled over in Hollywood when his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit and he subsequently spent 15 hours in jail.

Weatherly recently pleaded no contest and was sentenced to three years’ probation. He was also ordered to complete both a three-month alcohol program and a MADD program, adds the site.
