‘Smokey and the Bandit’ Trans Am going up for auction

The only remaining Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from Burt Reynolds’ 1977 movie “Smokey and the Bandit” is slated for auction in January by Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The muscle car survived because it was Universal Studios’ official “promo car” that was used to promote the film.

Four identical Trans Ams used in the production were badly damaged in high-speed chase scenes, and later returned to GM and crushed, auction sources told us.

This car has been restored, and the auction house estimates it will fetch $1 million on Jan. 30.
