ABC apologizes for confusing Priyanka Chopra with another Indian actress

ABC left many scratching their heads after the network confused its new darling, Priyanka Chopra, with another well-known Indian actress, Yukta Mookhey.

Nightline” aired a promo this week for an interview with Chopra, but mistakenly used footage of Mookhey winning the Miss World competition in 2009 instead of Chopra winning the coveted crown in 2000.

Chopra, who stars on the network’s new series “Quantico,” caught wind of the mix-up, as did a number of viewers.

ABC issued an apology and updated the video on its website. Chopra, 33, simply tweeted, “Thank you for the correction @nightline… #Quantico.”

In the segment, ironically focused on the racism Chopra has encountered in her life, the actress discusses the difficulty of confronting bullies in high school. And to this day, she’s still encountering closed minds.

To the dismay of many detractors, she was named the official singer for Thursday Night Football for the NFL a few years ago.

“There was a lot of these terrorist comments that called me an ‘Arab terrorist,’” she recalled. “I was offended on two accounts: one, why is every Arab a terrorist? And second of all, how am I an Arab? I’m Indian.”

Despite the negative comments, she’s pressing forward to make a name for herself in the States.

“Haters gonna hate … Who cares? … I think I’ve been a famous person long enough to know that you can’t please everyone.”
